Investigation (15)

"Hello," I greeted one of the 3 office attendants at the front office at Leah DiNozzo's school.

"Hold on," The office attendant snapped back, her evenly cut blonde hair bouncing against her shoulder blades. So, Kate and I were quiet until we were acknowledged again.

"Excuse me please." A soft voice asked behind me. I turned to see a girl, of about 15 or so, with soft looking, bouncy reddish brown hair, which covered one of her eyes, and ended around her midriff.

Kate and I took a step to the left, and allowed her to go past us. The stack of paper she was carrying found its way into a cubby with the name 'Houff' labeling it.

"Sorry, one more time." She asked, moving between us, and leaving the office.

"What do you two need?" The annoying blonde office lady asked, looking up at Kate and I from her computer.

"We're here for Lori DiNi," I explained, making sure to use her school alias.

"Relation?" She asked, smacking her gum, and looking down at her computer again. Instead of answering, I showed her my badge. "Is she in some kind of trouble or something?"

"No, we just need to talk to her."

"Well, you're in luck. Because she just left the office. That little girl that was in here just now, that's her. Now leave." She insisted, going back to smacking her gum. Kate and I exchanged a quick glance before following after the girl that just left.

"Lori DiNi!" I called down the hall to the girl who had just turned the corner." Her head popped back into the hall. "Could we talk to you for a minute please?"

"Quick, I need to get back to chemistry." She replied, smiling, and walking to meet us. But before we could ask her anything my phone started ringing.

My eyes got wide, and I made a face before answering. "Agent McGee," I replied.

"Where in the world are you two?" Gibbs asked.

"Ugh... Kate and I are- at- at a... ... ... we're at a local high school."

"McGee!" Kate whispered in annoyance. Leah looked between Kate and I a few times.

"Why are you at a local high school?" Gibbs asked.

"Because we're- never mind. We're coming in now."

"Dang right you are." Gibbs agreed, flipping his phone closed in annoyance.

"We need to go." I whispered to Kate, "Ugh, Lori?"

"Yes M- yes?" She replied, raising her eyebrows.

"We need to talk to you, but not right now. Are you free later tonight?"

"Actually, I have plans with Brock and Jack tonight."

"Oooh, what are you doing?" Kate asked.

"Bowling." She replied.

"Fun! Does tomorrow work? Or perhaps Friday?"

"Friday works for me." Lori agreed.

"Perfect, could you meet us at the public library Friday around 6?"

"Sounds good." Lori smiled at us before walking to the stairs, and heading up them.

Friday

I looked around the library but didn't see Leah DiNozzo  anywhere. So, instead Kate and I walked into the library, and saw Leah curled up in the corner of the library in a large arm chair, reading.
