Investigation (15)

Start from the beginning

"Leah DiNozzo!" I called, ignoring the alias, which earned me many 'SHHHHH es. "Sorry," I replied, walking to her, as we made eye contact.

"Hi Special Agents," Leah greeted in a whisper.

"Hiya Leah, how was bowling?" Kate asked, taking a seat next to her.

"Great! I was in 3rd place the entire time, and ended up 27 points behind the boys." She replied with a giggle.

"I'm sorry,"

"It's okay, they were really mean and braggy about it, which made it better. They like making fun of me, but I enjoy it too."

Kate nodded knowingly. "I have a bunch of older brothers, I get it."

"Anyway," I interjected, "We wanted to ask you a few questions."

"Yeah, go ahead. Actually, wait just a second." Leah looked down at her book again for a second, before turning the page and ending up at a new chapter. "Sorry, go ahead." Kate chuckled, and turned her attention to me too.

"So, you're Tony DiNozzo's little sister?" I asked.

Leah looked at me and cocked his head. "How do you know my brother? Do you work with him at NCIS?"

"Yeah we do." I agreed.

"That makes sense. And, yeah I am his little sister."

"Where were you over Christmas?"

"I was at Anty's house." She replied.

"Anty?"

"Oh, right, sorry, you know him as Tony." Leah said blushing slightly.

"Anty?" Kate asked, chuckling.

"I was 3 okay?" Leah replied indignantly.

"Leah, do you dance?" I asked.

"... Well... I- ugh... never took lessons..." Leah, replied, shifting guiltily.

"That's not what I asked. Why don't you follow me for a minute." I offered, standing up.

"You could be an axe murderer." Leah contradicted. After a quick glance down at the book in Leah's lap Kate replied.

"There's always that possibility. Come on Leah DiNozzo, take a risk." Kate looked around for a half second. "Sorry, I don't have any cigarettes'."

Leah giggled again. "Okay, so where are we going?"

We walked to an empty dance studio. "How did you make her come along?" I asked Kate, glancing back at Lori who had her nose stuck in a book with a blue cover.

"That book she's reading." Kate replied simply.

"It's called 'The Fault in Our Stars'. More often than not I don't trust people just because of the way I was raised, but sometimes, books can recommend people to me. It's a bit weird but it works. That's how I knew I could trust you two." Leahreplied, speaking in one breath.

Kate nodded, as if what Leah had said made sense.

"What?" I asked.

"He doesn't understand that, he speaks geek." Kate explained.

"Hey."

"No, I get it. I speak geek too." Leah commented "Or, can. How about this. 01001001 01110100 00100111-."

"Saying it in binary won't make me understand it any better."

"Sign language?"

"No."

"Morse code?"

"No!"

"Backwards?"

"N- wait, backwards?"

"Yeah, .owt uoy tsurt dluoc I wenk I woh s'tahT .skrow ti tub driew tib a s'tI .em ot elpoep dnemmocer nac skoob ,semitemos tub ,desiar saw I yaw eht fo esuaceb tsuj elpoep tsurt t'nod I ton naht netfo eroM .'sratS ruO ni tluaF ehT' dellac s'tI." She replied.

"... Are you sure you and Tony are siblings because you're great, and he's... Tony." Kate asked.

"I'm completely sure the two of us are related. I grew up with him. He practically raised me."

When we got to the dance studio, we entered, and Kate closed the door behind us.

"So Leah, can you dance for us?"

"Ugh..." She replied.

"Can you pir- perooo- what- what's the word?" I asked Kate.

"Pirouette," Kate replied.

"Ugh..." Leah said again, before "Sure." She took her boots off, moved into the middle of the dance floor. She raised her arms to about chest level, and spun once.

"How many times can you do it?" I asked, folding my arms.

"I dunno. Count for me will you?" Leah asked, raising her arms again.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, then she faltered.

"Seven." Kate informed.

"I can do better than that, one second." Leah insisted.

With the help of her leg to gain more momentum, Lori spun once, twice, three times. Four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen sixteen times before letting her other foot land on the floor.

"How many was that?"

"17."

"Not bad E. Not bad." Leah muttered, fixing the ponytail she had thrown into her hair. "How does that help you Special Agents?"

"Were you dancing in Tony's living room on Christmas?" I asked.

"Yes I was." She agreed.

"Okay, well that answers that question. How about this one. Tony's parents live in Italy. Why don't you live with them?"

"Well," Leah replied. "I was born in America, and my mum and dad disowned me. Tony lives here so I figured I'd stay. He's annoying as frick though so I don't want to actually live with him. So, I live with my best friends Brock and Jack. They have a spare room. But I go to Antys for holidays and such." She replied.

Ellie's P.O.V.

You know what I love?

I wasn't technically lying when I was talking to McGee and Todd.

Dad did practically raise me. Practically. I raised myself a good bit.

Dad is quite annoying sometimes.

And sometimes I do live with Brock and Jack; when dad's out of town.

"Okay, cool." McGee said satisfied. "Thank you for your time Leah, it was very nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you lot too."

"One more question, why do you go by DiNi and not DiNozzo?"

Nodding her head, Leah relented to them that Tony had decided it would be safer for her to go by a half-faux last name just in case anyone had a grudge against 'DiNozzo' and found her.
Leah then left, reading, and heading back towards the library.

"Well, that answers that question." Kate observed, while the two of us left. "Why did Tony never tell us about his sister?"

"I dunno." I replied.

So, here's the follow up to McGee's suspicions in 'It's a Wonderful Life'!

Hope you enjoyed!

Happy New Year!
