Ruby's Surveyor

Chapter 3: The Surveyor

"Well you're big, round, it's obvious it's in the middle but where?" Over the past few years Ruby had gotten into books associated with mechanical objects. How they work, why they work, and what to do should they not work.

To Ruby it was hard to understand and read about considering how young she was. Yet in time with some trial and error Ruby had successfully made something, a blueprint of a weapon, her future weapon to be exact which she hopes to make something out of later.

After all to be a Huntress one would need a weapon. Anyway as she continues looking with more then half of her body in the machine Ruby counted herself lucky she was small enough to reach in without taking stuff out.

"Ah Ha!" Finally finding what she thinks is a power source it was in an open small round space, looking inside she saw that it's center was a purple colored energy source. "It's small." She mentions. Using her magnifying goggles she saw that it was pulsating.

Twisting and turning around, she couldn't exactly explain what it was. Pulling herself out of the Eliksni machine she thinks on what to do next. It was obvious that it was a power source, small it was.

With a snap she remembers the most important detail about machines. Dust, they needed dust to run and function. Maybe her friend was running out and was trying to conserve power!

"Just like my video games!" Also remembering her games brightness going down, and her sister explaining why it was doing that. "Dust! I need dust uhh...but what kind of dust?"

Trying to find a solution, she went back home, seeing if she could find some unused dust at home.

*Creak~* Opening her homes back door she walks into her kitchen and looks for her Dad. It wasn't long before she saw him talking on his scroll near the T.V.
"Dad, Dad!" Ruby called out walking to him. "Wait, hold on a sec. Sorry sweetie, but can you wait for a bit? This call is really important right now." Taiyang said to Ruby pulling his scroll as far as he could while holding it.

"But it is important, do we have dust?" Ruby asked.

"Dust? Why would you need- Look, it's gonna have to wait a bit ok? I'll- Oh! Yeah I'm still here, sorry, my youngest was asking me a question. Yes of course." Taiyang was back on his scroll talking to someone. Seeing that it was important to him she went to ask her sister.

Inside her room, Yang was writing down in a notebook, in front of her was a purple, glowing, floating Crystal. This was a Dust Crystal and Yang was writing a report about it.

"Yang!" Ruby yells, barging into the room with the door crashing into the wall, to say her blond hair sister jumped was a fair assessment.

"Jeez Rubes, could you not do that?" Yangs eyes turned red with a small scowl to her sister, the paper that she was working on was due and to say it needed to be done was an understatement.

"But it's important! I need Dust!" Yang wondered why Ruby needed dust and was about to ask "Why?" before her sister suddenly appeared next to her looking at the floating and slightly spinning Crystal.

"What's that?" "That's Dust, Gravity Dust for my report. The teacher said it was safe and the worse that it could do is make you float." With starry eyes Ruby looked on as it was slowly rising.

"...Can I have it?" "No Way! I need it for my report, so could you please leave me-" As Yang turned back to watch her Crystal it was already gone.

In disbelief she looked up at the ceiling wondering if it floated up. "No..." Looking around her seeing that Ruby was gone from her spot. "No no no..." Running into the kitchen passing her Dad still on his scroll and looking out into the forest she sees a red cape disappear into the forest.

"Ruby!" And so Yang left the house to follow her sister. As they left, Taiyang looked into the empty kitchen and shrugged. "Yes I'm interested. Oh! What this about dental?"

"I'm back!" Ruby says holding the Dust Crystal, in the small area books are laid open with some detailing about machines, computers, and Dust. Not far is her best friends blanket (Grass Cover).

"Ok! Let's get to work!" Ruby says, putting her goggles over her eyes and going for the plate that opens to her friends core.
With some effort she finally opens up the robotic chassis and looks inside. It was a bit dark, but with the small purple glow lighting the servitors insides and her goggles with built in night vision, she manages.

Grabbing the Crystal she slowly and carefully crawls into her friend and the operation commences.

"Ruby! Ruby where'd ya go?" Yang yells out, she had been walking for a bit after losing her sister when she went through a big bush. "Great, I don't even want to know what my hair even looks like." Yang says, pulling out a small twig from her hair. Unseen to her, small leaves and more small sticks are in her hair, very frazzled.

"Ugh! She's just like a fox!" Passing through a bush she sees a clearing, books all around, a blanket of leaves, an uneaten muffin, Ruby's legs sticking out of a big machi- "Big Machine?"

Yes, when looking through Yang's eyes she could see that the pair of legs did belong to Ruby. With the black leggings, the pair of boots, and the last muffin she wanted to eat this morning was here, who wouldn't this be?

About to yell at Ruby as she walks to her, she stops hearing what her sister was saying, inside this weird eye...machine.
"Circy?" Yang thinks in disbelief.

"You know, Hmph! It all started when Headmaster Ozpin. Thee! Headmaster Ozpin came to our house, he said he had some bad news for us." Ruby's struggling suddenly stopped for a sec. Yang nearby listens to Ruby sitting down with a frown next to her half sister.

"He...he said that mom wasn't coming back. I was sad. Yang was sad, everybody was sad. But then I found you!" Ruby "jumps" in excitement, back to crawling.

"You were sad too weren't you. So I'm going to fix you up! In fact...Oof! I think I found out your name too!" Ruby now in front of the small purple glowing ball smiles greatly.

"It was in a big book I found. Serv-Servi-Surveyor! That was it! My new best friend Surveyor!" Finally bringing the Crystal up she tosses it into the core. Expecting it to drop and fall, to Ruby's surprise it didn't.

The Crystal hovered for a second then that's when it started to float to Serveyor's Core.
