A Different Midnight Duel

Start from the beginning

'Mort, please don't kill him, I want to see his face as I take everything from him and strip him from his power.  I want to see him lose.' Harry received no response but he saw the shadows that had been slowly growing and creeping up on Terrence retreat slightly, but the thick and cold air remained. Terrence specifically looked especially pale and his hands became clammy.

"See you at midnight, your majesty." Harry snickered, leaving a confused and angry Terrence behind.

When he returned to his friends, they all crowded him, asking if he was alright and what had happened.

"Guys! Guys! Don't worry, I just got the prince to challenge me to a duel."

They were all shocked into silence for a few seconds.

"Are you stupid?"

"I can't believe you, Harry. Do you even know anything? How do you plan to beat him? You could die, Harry. Die!" Draco was pacing around their room, fussing over Harry, who was in dueling robes. He had received a letter signed from the king and queen decreeing that the challenge had been processed and accepted as well as a list of rules and requirements, including wearing. the correct attire. Both the king and queen would be officiating while their head of house would be the referee.

Blaise wasn't helping Harry either, as he was just snickering in a corner and reading a charms book.

"I'm not going to die, Draco. It's against the rules, and Yaxley doesn't want to be disqualified. Besides, there are runes and stuff to prevent that type of thing. And Uncle Severus will be there." Harry tried to placate his brother.

Draco opted to ignore him and continue pacing around the room.

"It's ten minutes to midnight, we should get going." Blaise suddenly said, bringing both boys out of their thoughts.

Harry stood up and summoned his wand as well as fortified his wall between him and Mortem. He didn't need to be distracted mid battle by his soulmate shouting profanities. at Yaxley or being overly loud when cheering him on.

"Come on, then."  The three of them walked into an already full common room. People had been buzzing for the whole day after news had spread at lunch, and many people had gone up to Harry to cheer him on, or tell him that they were ready to go and run all the way to the hospital wing if need be.

Harry had just smiled at them in the way he knew left people unnerved and stalked off elegantly, head held high and poise never dropping.

Harry's green eyes met Severus' onyx ones, who were lazily looking over the crowd and making sure nothing dangerous happened. Severus himself was elegantly draped on an armchair, legs crossed, the right arm on the arm rest and holding up his chin with the thumb while the left was neatly laying on top of his right leg.

Snape nodded at him before standing up and immediately silencing the room.

"You all know the rules. Shall our current Prince be beaten, he is to step down from his place and let his Challenger take his place. He shall not return to the monarchy. Shall the Challenger lose to our current Prince, he is to become the Jester."

The whole of Slytherin laughed at this. Apart from the monarchy, Slytherin had a court, who was also held above the rest of the house, but did not hold much power. To be the Jester was... insulting, to say the least. You were at the bottom of the social pyramid. You were at everyone's beck and call. You were the underdog. You lived to serve and be comedic relief. If the house was in danger, you would take the fall. And worst of all, you were a Jester for the rest of your life.

Snape continued, "The Challenger shall never run for monarchy or court. If any of the duelists break any of the rules, they will be disqualified and therefore, lose. Duellists, take your positions."

Harry and Yaxley stood up and stepped over to the protected area of the common room. It had various charms and runes around it to make sure no one outside of the area got hurt. The two bowed to each other before walking three steps away from the other.

"You may begin."

At first nothing happened, they just looked at eachother, wands laying slacking at their side. The next second, Yaxley had his wand pointed at Harry, sending a red beam of light at Harry. Harry sidestepped and sent a 'Stupefy' his way. Yaxley cast up a shield, but it didn't stand a chance against the many multi-colored beams that Harry was sending his way. The shield became weaker and weaker until Terrence was finally hit with a 'bat-bogey hex'. He doubled over as large bats began to spew out of his nose. Harry smirked and flourished his wand once again, causing Terrence to begin spewing slugs. Harry cast a 'Petrificus Totalus' and a cutting jinx in quick succession before muttering, 'Expelliarmus' and disarming the boy.

Harry sneered as he looked at the boy. He was stiff as a board, bleeding from the various places the cutting jinxes had hit him, with bats still flying out of his nose and slugs racing out of his mouth.

Harry then turned to the rest of Slytherin, who were watching him with their jaws on the floor and their eyes wide. Terrence Yaxley, the Unbeatable Prince, had just been beaten.

By a first year, who had only been there a week, no less.

"Close your mouths, you'll catch flies." Harry smirked. Instantly, the Slytherins were brought out of their stupor and they cheered. Harry grinned like the cheshire cat at the support. Severus walked up, the crowd clearing for him. He had a crown in his hands.

The crown was golden with intricate designs. The crown's jewels were beautiful emeralds that Harry knew would bring out his eyes. Severus placed the crown on Harry's head and instantly, every Slytherin bowed.

Harry smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. Wearing a crown reminded him of his own crown. The one he had back with Mortem, which was more of a tiara, with beautiful diamonds and the metal was moulded with arches and peaks and in the middle was a large green emerald that would sit beautifully on his head.

Harry pushed that thought out of his mind and opened the channel between him and his mate, who was now praising him and telling him how proud he was.

Severus turned to the rest of the house and announced, "Harrison Potter, Prince of Slytherin."
