The Element - Loki / Avengers x Reader

Y/N headed back into the kitchen, greeted with the smell of sweet fresh pancakes and maple syrup.
"Foods ready kid. Want some?" Steve asked
"These are good, get some before I finish them off" Tony said with his mouth full.
"Thanks , sorry again about earlier" Y/N took a seat at the table opposite Tony and Bruce and were soon joined by Thor, Nat and Clint
"Hey don't worry about. We've all woken up in worse places" Steve smiled reassuringly.
"Speak for yourself capsicle. At least she didn't wake up naked on the roof" Tony teased.
"That was one time. Clints the one who fell asleep in the middle of Central Park spooning with Thor a few weeks ago." Steve laughed.
"I must say that a like to be the little spoon you people speak of." Thor exclaimed.

Soon the team were teasing each other about past drunken shenanigans which got Y/N thinking about how much she missed her best friend Alice.

Pancakes were devoured by the dozen and the tea and coffee were beginning to wake everyone up. Loki shuffled into the living room quietly, holding his chin up high and avoiding eye contact with anyone. He graciously sat down on the sofas and quickly opened his book to avoid small talk.
"Good morning to you too Professor snape" Tony rolled his eyes.
"I trust you slept well brother. Have you met our young Y/N here ?"
"Yes we have exchanged pleasantries" Loki said without looking up from his book.
'Pleasantries!?' Y/N thought to herself angrily. 'I'd hardly call it pleasant !'

Steve and Nat cleared the table, "Tony , Clint and I have a meeting with Coulson soon so we will be back to help with Y/N's training later." Steve said while putting his jacket and sunglasses on.
"That's fine she'll be with Banner this morning anyway. Let's go empath before you start feeling Loki's Adam's family vibe" Tony gestured towards the lab. Y/N chuckled but was met with a horrifically piercing stare of disapproval from Loki.
'Empath ay? This should be fun" Loki thought to himself.

Bruce took Y/N through the lab and explained what this morning's tests were. She was glad they weren't academic but equally wasn't overly fond of the idea of them.
"So we'll need to take bloods before you use your powers , during, then about thirty minutes after, as well as monitor your heartbeat and brainwaves. I'll let test your durability for using your powers" Bruce tried to explain for Y/N and Tony to understand without using too many scientific words
"Yeah we get it, you'll stab, watch and wait for her to make herself pass out" Y/N knew Tony was joking but it didn't make it any less scary for her.
"Okay so let's make a start" with that Bruce took blood samples from Y/N before using any of her powers. She couldn't help but look away, needles and blood were not something she could stomach this early in the morning.
"Okay, I want you to start trying to use your Empath skills. Focus on Tony. Keep that focus going and I'll take another bloody sample" Bruce could see she was nervous so tried to be as reassuring as possible.
"Okay I'll try" Y/N focussed hard on Tony. She closed her eyes, remembered to breathe and began to feel something. Not just the needle going into her arm again. Something else.
"What do you feel?" Asked Tony.
"I feel hungry" Y/N said. "That just be wrong , we just ate" she said sadly.
"No no no that's right! I'm starving" Tony said excitedly.
"For god sake Tony you just ate a stack of pancakes! I'm testing you for diabetes next." Bruce said disapprovingly.
"I am iron man. I need all the strength I can get. Keep going Y/N this is good" after 15 minutes of feeling Tony's hunger. They moved onto the next test.
"Okay so now something a little bit harder. I need you to produce one of your elements. Try fire first. Produce it, hold it for a few seconds. Then shut it off" Bruce explained. They could see the nerves and fear in her eyes.
"O...out here ? In the open? Aren't you worried I'll set something on fire ?"
"That's what this is for" Tony slammed a fire extinguisher down on the floor next to Bruce.
"It's okay, you can do it" Bruce reassured her.

Y/N closed her eyes, remembered to breathe , held her hand out with her palm facing upwards and began to think of fire.
With that a small ball of fire appeared in her hand.
"Wow" Bruce was in awe. "Now I want s'mores" Tony whined.
After 20 seconds the flame disappeared.
" I did it. And no one caught on fire" Y/N beamed.
"Great job sparky now let's try this quake thing you can do" Tony walked away and soon came back in his iron man gear.
"Throw me across the room" he ordered.
"I beg your pardon?" Y/N thought she had heard wrong.
"It's okay, we throw him around all the time , he shoots us, it's a normal thing. Just focus your energy on pushing him away from you." Bruce tried to reassure her again.
"Okay. I am sorry if I hurt you".

Y/N was nervous. She hadn't used this power for a long time. The last time that she remembered using it was when she was 15 and someone was bullying her friend so she quaked him across the playground.

"I need you to focus hard. This is the last test. It might make you tired but I need to get an idea what your durance is like, Tony will be fine he's been through worse" he winked at Tony.

With that, Y/N held both hands in front of her, palms facing Tony and paused. She closed her eyes, breathed, then let go.

Suddenly the lights were flickering, the ground began to shake , and ripples came flying out of her hands. Tony put one foot behind the other to balance himself and to try and hold himself up. However after a few seconds he had lost his footing and was soon flying backwards against the brick wall. He was stuck. Pinned against the wall. Unable to move.

"You okay Tony?" Bruce asked whilst watching Y/N's brain waves on the screen.
"I'm fine! Kid , go for it, give us all you got!" Tony shouted.

Suddenly , Y/N let out a cry and the ripple became bigger , louder and stronger. Blood started to drip from her ears , her heart rate sped up dramatically.

"Y/N you can stop now!" Bruce shouted.

But she couldn't.

"Y/N!!!" Tony shouted.

Suddenly her vision went dark and she felt her head thud against the floor.

She could hear Tony and Bruce running towards her to help.
