As much as she tried to stay awake and look after her boyfriend and make sure he was sleeping well, Spencer finally fell asleep after about two hours, but about an hour later she woke up because she could no longer feel Toby sleeping on her chest and so she slowly sat up and she could see him sitting at the end of the couch, hunched over and she assumed that he was being extra careful trying not to show how much he was in pain because he didn't want to wake her up, he was so stubborn like that. "Tobes?" She whispered to him and he looked over at her and she could tell that he'd been crying, he took a shaky deep breath before starting to speak. "I didn't want to wake you up." He whispered and she shook her head. "Don't do that. You can always wake me up, you know that, just like you tell me." She whispered back to him and he smiled slightly at her. "Yeah, I know." He said, but then his pain got even worse, he winced before covering his eyes with his hands and Spencer felt like her heart was going to beat right out of her chest, that's how anxious she was for him, she just wanted to take his pain away somehow. "Babe," She said softly as she placed her hand on his back comfortingly and he slowly removed his hands from his eye and looked up at her. "Try to breathe for me Tobes." She said
and Toby nodded and tried to breathe, she took his other hand and put it on her chest as she breathed with him, he rested his forehead against hers for a second as he took a deep breath, then he focused on her eyes as he continued to breathe with her and after a few more minutes he was able to speak again,
although he was still in quite a bit of pain.
"Okay, now I want you to talk to me. Just stay with me here, let our conversation distract you from the pain. Okay?" She said and Toby nodded. "Y-yeah, okay. What do you want to talk about?" He asked her. "Why don't you tell me one of your favorite childhood memories?
I'm sure there's some you still haven't told me." Spencer said and Toby took a deep breath before nodding. "Yeah, there is." Toby said. "I mean, if you want to tell me, I don't want it to seem like I'm pushing you or something, I just want to distract you from the pain." Spencer said and he shook his head. "Spence, you're not. It's fine. You know I like telling you about my mom anyway." He said as he smiled softly at her and she smiled back at him. "I do know, and I love hearing about her." She said as she ran her hand through his hair comfortingly. "I do. Okay, so there was this one time, when I was around I think five or six, there had recently been a lot of snowfall, my dad was away on a business trip, and so my mom and I got to have some extra bonding time, just the two of us. We played outside in the snow, did snow angels, made a huge snowman, and of course had a little snowball fight, which she let me win, and we probably stayed out there longer than we should've because it was obviously so cold outside, but we were both having so much fun that we didn't really care, and then when we finally went back inside, my mom made some hot chocolate for both of us and we snuggled together on the couch and watched a movie." Toby said. "That sounds pretty amazing." Spencer said; she had listened very intently, she loved hearing him talk about memories with his mom. "Yeah, it was. That was a good day, a great day." Toby said as he smiled a little.
"I really do wish that I could've met her…" Spencer said as she smiled sadly. "Yeah, me too. She would've loved you Spence." Toby said as he smiled softly at her. "I love hearing that. From the way you always talk about her, she sounds like she was an amazing woman." Spencer said as she smiled softly. "She definitely was. I know that she would be happy that I found someone who loves me and takes care of me." Toby said. "There's nobody else I'd rather be with, and all I wish I could do right now is take your pain away." Spencer said as she stroked his cheek gently. "You are helping with that, you're distracting me." Toby said as he smiled softly at her. "Well I'm glad. You doing okay?" Spencer asked and he nodded.
"As okay as I can be right now with an ulcer in my stomach, yeah." He said and Spencer shook her head. "You just keep sliding the jokes in don't you." She said. "That's helping too." Toby said and Spencer playfully rolled her eyes. "Alright then, now I want to hear about your training, how'd it go? Aside from you pushing yourself too hard." Spencer said. "You're not going to let this go, are you?" Toby asked her and she shook her head. "When it comes to your health, nope." She said and he couldn't help but smile slightly at her through his pain. "You're amazing." He said. "Well thank you, but so are you. Now, tell me about your training?" Spencer said and Toby was about to speak before he was hit with another sharp pain in his stomach and he winced before taking a shaky deep breath and hunching over a little bit. "Tobes..." Spencer said worriedly.
"I-I'm okay, don't worry." He insisted. "Well seeing my boyfriend in so much pain, hunching over is kinda concerning." Spencer said as she rubbed his back comfortingly.
