"I don't need lessons from you, weirdo," Logan joked as he accepted the cup and he was about to make another comment when a cat got his tongue.
'Once you see her, you'd understand'
Those words had never felt more valid as the tall, slender girl, with the most beautiful smile on her face, made way towards them, with a gently flip of her long raven black hair, in what felt like slow motion. Logan's mouth hung open as he watched her, admiringly. Was this level of natural beauty even possible?
"Hey Jamie," the girl said as she put her arms around his friend and pecked him lightly on the lip. "I'm glad you could make it."
Logan gulped, only realizing that he should not be staring at his best friend's girlfriend like that or feeling immensely jealous and almost angry that they were kissing in front of him.
"D-definitely," James stuttered as he watched her like she was some sort of goddess and she could easily pass as one. Once he'd managed to regain his composure, he'd finally deemed it fit to make the necessary introductions. "So, meet my best friend, the nerdy book genius, Logan." He smiled. "Logan, meet my girlfriend, Cassie."
"Hi, Logan." She finally turned to face him as though she was just noticing his presence.
He felt a little offended but mostly relieved that he finally got her attention.
"I've heard so much about you," she said, extending her hands for a shake as her large brown eyes shone with excitement and an alluring innocence, with her beautiful, perfect pink lips that would've felt so much better against his.
"And I have heard much more about you." He took her soft, warm hand in his and caressed it gently, holding it for as long as he could, before things got weird.
The rest of the night was without a doubt frustrating. He'd shunned every girl that tried to come close with the same repelling words, 'I'm seventeen!' That seemed to work all the time.
All he did was watch the couple beside him, giggling, holding unto each other as though their lives depended on it. They were still in the honeymoon phase, after all, James had only been bold enough to ask her out a month ago.
Right now, Logan regretted giving advice and courage to his lovestruck friend with everything in him.
"Oh please, don't tell me you guys have just been hiding over here," A beautiful redhead said as she approached them with two plastic cups in her hands, drinking from each one simultaneously.
Cassie laughed. Logan wished she hadn't because it did too many unfair things to his heart.
"Jamie, this is Trisha, my sister," she said and James had got up to give her a handshake which she'd conveniently turned into a hug.
"Oh my, it's so good to finally meet you," Trisha said as she held unto James' hand in hers. "Cass, I'm borrowing this cutie, to make this party a little fun for him, since you just want to be a boring lovey-dovey girl." She wouldn't even let him protest as they moved towards the dance floor, beckoning on Logan and Cassie to join them.
Logan was thrilled to be alone with her, as he got up, struggling with everything in him to remain calm. He took sight of the two empty cups of alcohol he'd drowned, which was very unusual for someone as responsible as him.
She took his hand in hers and led him towards the dance floor, behind James and Trisha.
"You should be a little more cautious about watching me when your friend is just right there," Cassie stated, as she began dancing in front of him, staring at him as though, they were the only two people in the room.
He was stunned to come in contact with her intimidating brown eyes and every hint of innocence in them had completely vanished.
"W-what are you talking about?" He looked away, nervously, dancing as much as he could, hoping his movements were not ridiculous. Dancing was the only thing he was bad at.
"Oh please, Lucas, I'm neither blind nor stupid," she said with a smile on her face.
If only she could at least stop smiling for a moment, maybe he'd be able to think.
"Logan," he corrected her.
"You cute little thing," she said, narrowing the gap between them. If he didn't know better, he'd think she was flirting with him.
He frowned. "I'm not little, Cara," he replied not because he'd forgotten her name, but he just wanted to be petty.
"I like you," she said with a smile as she shifted even closer to him, eliminating every distance between them and placed her hands around his neck, which sent shivers down his spine while he stared at her dumbfounded, unable to believe what was going on.
Her boyfriend, his childhood and best friend was standing right beside them. What the hell was she thinking?
"If you're as smart as James says you are, find a way to contact me, I could consider hanging out with you and we'll see how that goes."
She seductively bit her lip as she leaned in so close, causing his heart to beat frantically against his chest. He knew he was desperate for a kiss from the most beautiful lips he'd ever seen, but then again, everything about this situation was wrong.
"Then it's sad that I don't like you." It took everything in Logan to say those words as he moved away, but Cassie only smiled which made him even more infuriated.
"Can I have my girlfriend back?" Jamie grinned as he walked towards them and reached out his hands to her which she'd taken immediately.
"Hey, my love. I missed you," Cassie replied as she pulled him closer to her and placed a kiss on his lips and Logan could see her undeniably watching him from the corner of her eyes.
He could only hurry away from the scene towards the table filled with alcohol and as he downed cup after cup, he wondered who exactly that girl was and what game she was trying to play.
