Chapter 14

I turn to face Tommy, he has a small smile on his face. "Oh Tommy, we both know you'd have been just as fine without me". 

"Y/n, I want to tell you this now, just in case I can't later-" 

"Don't talk like that Tommy! We will get through this... the heroes always do", I say with a smile.

"But at what cost? What if someone dies today? I'd never forgive myself!" 

"First Tommy, if someone dies today, you can NOT blame yourself. Everyone has willingly made the choice today to serve the country". 

"But I gave the speech to them-", Tommy protests.

"Shh! Just listen", I say cutting him off. 

"But what if it's not worth it- what if we lose it all?" 

"Tommy, you said it yourself yesterday. We are doing this for L'manberg. Everyone fighting today agreed that we were willing to put everything in our lives- our pasts, our feuds, our drama- all to the side for L'manberg."

"But y/n, why are you fighting? You've never been a formal part of L'manberg!", Tommy points out. 

"Because Tommy", I say without missing a beat, "you're my family and L'manberg is our home!" 

Tommy's face beams with pride as he engulfs me in a hug. "Thank you", he whispers. 

"Of course, and thank you, Tommy", I say while squeezing him back. "Now stand up straight, we've got a war to win!" 

Tommy stands up and gives me a salute with a goofy grin, but then his face falls. "You really think we can win?" 

"I know that odds are against us Big T, but that makes us the Underdogs! Everyone loves a good comeback story... the heroes always win in those!" 

"I don't want to face him, y/n", Tommy says with a grim face. 

"Oh... I know... me neither, Tommy." 

Until now, neither of us had mentioned the fact we were now opposing Technoblade. "If-if I'm fighting him, I don't know if I can be the one to kill him", Tommy confesses. 

"No one expects you to make that decision", I assure him. 

"Yes they do, y/n. No one may be saying it to my face, but if it comes down to it, they all will be thinking about it. You know the last time we had a major battle, Wilbur told me to shoot Schlatt. Schlatt was sitting there on the floor in defeat- he had taken everything from me- but I couldn't do it! Everyone was watching, telling me to do it, but I couldn't kill him!" 

"Tommy, killing isn't always the answer. If you find yourself in that position, we will find another option because quite frankly I know I won't be able to send Technoblade off either after everything he did for me." 

"Even though he betrayed you?", Tommy asks. 

"Yes, even though he betrayed me", I respond. 

"You're really something y/n", Tommy says in disbelief. 

"What's that supposed to mean?" 

"You've just been so kind to me and always seem to have perfect insight. I don't know, maybe it's because you're a woman." 

"TOMMY!", I cackle. 

"What?", he asks, genuinely confused. 

"You're really something too", I say between chuckles. "Let's get all of this stuff to the Team Base now". 

We pick up the spare gear and head out. As we were nearing the Base and L'manberg, yelling could be heard in the distance. Tommy and I lock eyes and immediately begin sprinting to find out what was happening. At the Base, everyone was scrambling around panicky.
