"It will take me about ten minutes. Be right back." I placed a kiss on his cheekbone and left the diner.

I arrived to my old house about five minutes later. It felt strange to be back here. The place was still filled with furniture yet it felt a little empty. The silence was enjoyable though. I should come here to read more often. I entered the bedroom.

Hmm I thought I placed it here on the bed... perhaps I moved it elsewhere? I did find a jar of cocoa cookies but no book."Don't mind if I do." I took a cookie out.

I looked through some of the drawers. "I put it here somewhere... is it just me or did the room get dark?"

And rightfully so, it did. Something was covering the window. I tried to open it to see what it was but it wouldn't budge. "That's strange."

I ignored it and continued to search for the book. I could've sworn I heard the snow crunching outside. I found the book in my closet.

I grabbed it and made my way out of the house. But when I opened the door I was met with an unusual visitor.

I saw only black at first, then there  piercing golden eyes stared right at me. It felt as if they were looking into my soul. I stepped back startled.

"Sorry for startling you miss. The names-"

"Sheriff hiss..." I stare bewildered. He was a giant snake. Black as night with golden eyes.

"Yes sheriff- hiss!? Are you kidding me!? They still call me that!?" His mannered tone disappeared.

"Oh um... well... that's probably because no one remembers your name." It concerns me how calm I am when talking to a crazy killer.

"Centuries of working for monsters and this is the legacy I get..." He grumbles. "Anyway, now that we have been acquainted. How about you join me and my friend for a nice stroll. Or I guess in my case, slither." He chuckles.

If that's not a red flag, I don't know what is. "I'm really sorry but I am afraid I can't. I need to get back to my friends. I told them I would return in a matter of minutes." I walk out the door and casually went around him. That took longer than expected. I didn't think a monster could be so big.

"Well it was nice meeting you. Perhaps we can do something next time okay? Bye!" I wave with a smile and sped walk away. Only I didn't get far. Flowey blocked my.

"Howdy y/n! Long time no see! Didya miss me? Cause I surely did!"

"You know Flowey,  this whole thing we got going on. Its getting kinda old. But what is it that you're doing this time?" I placed my hands on my hips.

"What am I doing? Haven't you noticed? This is an abduction."

"Wha- why? Why not kill me right here? You have this snake friend with you who is supposedly the strongest monster in the underground." I gesture to the snake behind me.

"I am, and while we do want to kill you. I am afraid we can't." Sheriff hiss. Slithered behind me. I can't take him seriously with that name. "It appears that both of you are confused on why so let me explain." He added. Flowey doesn't know why either?

"Now, have you perhaps noticed monsters making strange last minute decisions? . . . You were in a fight and they were about to kill you, until they all of a sudden say they can't bring themselves to. You probably believe that they changed because they felt bad for you, or you were able to convince them that you are a friend right?" He circled around.

"Um yes?"

"Wrong! You didn't even need to lift a finger and you were already off the hook! And you want know why that is? Because the very thing monsters want from you stops them. You soul."
