i laughed, "i'd be quite worried if we were just getting in a car."
she smiled while opening the armrest console, taking out my phone and holding it out for me. "was stealing my phone really necessary?" i said as i took it.
"yes." she answered as she stuck the keys into the ignition, starting the car.
as she drove off, i unlocked my phone—and it opened up to an online ticket to what i read was a museum.
"you know my password?" i asked instead of shining on the fact that she was taking me to a museum.
"no, i used your face to unlock it." she mumbled as she stopped at a stop sign. "but that's not the point, read it." she said as she moved my phone in my hand closer to my face.
"a matisse exhibit at a museum." i said, seeing her smile, her eyes excited as she began to drive again.
"yep." she said, her eyes on the road though she continued to smile.
"ahh, i see." i said, putting my phone down as i looked at her. "is this our thing now?"
we have a thing, i smiled as i looked out the window.
"yes." she said with a nod, "and after we'll get some breakfast because i know you didn't eat yet—i mean, i didn't mean to force you out the house right when you got up, but i knew that if i hadn't, i'd be too nervous to talk to you all day." she spoke fast before she sighed, "fuck, i need to stop talking." she mumbled with a laugh.
she always spoke so fast, and if someone were to zone out, i don't think they'd understand her. i think it was how her brain worked, she had to get all her words out as new thoughts flooded in. she was always alert and probably had many things on her mind at once.
"were you waiting for me to wake up this whole time?" i asked, checking the time to see that it was 12:30.
"maybe." she looked at her rear view and side mirror before signaling and switching lanes. "the museum closes at five, but you usually wake up early so i didn't mind waiting."
"i stayed up later than i had expected last night, so i woke up later than normal."
"i didn't sleep much so i'm running on coffee." she said, "probably why i'm so jittery." she said with a sigh.
"i'm not so sure it's just the coffee." i said with a nod, and she laughed.
i turned on the radio, starting to flip through the channels since there wasn't a usb plugged in anywhere. my finger had stopped once i heard a familiar voice. jenny.
her eyes widened before she quickly changed the channel. she must have been spiraling in her mind, her thumb tapping the steering wheel as she continued to drive.
i've never heard the full song before, but i knew her voice and have also heard some of it that one time i came into the studio as they worked. i still couldn't believe griffin had released it—i couldn't believe it blew up like that. it's already on the radio. it would seem impossible if it weren't for the label she was supposedly under. our label was huge, and griffin only signed the best of the best.
it sounds like i'm bragging, but timothée and i weren't signed when griffin had this god-like wing. we were his first act, the first people under his label. we had to work our way up, and all the success came during our second year as a band. after that, griffin had a name for himself and the label, and he eventually started signing other talents.
