the two hear a creak in the main office, "speak of the devil, and here he comes."
a tall man with curly hair pokes his head into the office, "hey, sibyl?" he turns to look at paul, "what the fuck?"
"zach, this is paul. paul, this is zach." she says, sitting up straight. "what's up?"
"someone stole the sign for the water again."
"are you fucking serious?"
"as a heart attack."
"and it's not in one of the carts?"
"nope."
"jesus christ." she sighs, "i'll print one and put it up."
(a/n: thats a legitimate conversation i have at least once a week at work. mf's LOVE to steal water signs. like give me that shit back.)
zach walks back out of the office as sibyl rubs her temples. "i don't understand peoples fascination with the goddamn water signs." she laughs, making paul chuckle.
"new yorkers are weird."
"you're telling me!" she smiles, eating her last jojo and tossing the box in the trash.
the two spend her lunch making jokes with one another, and talking about customers that sibyl has had to wait on. pam plans on sending her home early, since she was supposed to be off, so techno was glad that she would be home by eight-thirty.
he watches as she clocks back in and walks up front with her. she bids him goodbye, planting a soft kiss on his cheek, and he heads back to her apartment afterwards. the sun had gone down, leaving the town of albany lit by the street lamps.
he sighs softly, fingers tapping at the steering wheel softly as he waits at a red light. he only had three days left until his scheduled flight home, and he prays that time goes by slow until then. his phone rings in his pocket, so he fishes it out and brings it to his ear.
"hello?"
"techno!" wilbur shouts, "i see that you and sibyl streamed together earlier?"
"yes, we did. it was a lot of fun, actually." he says, turning on his turn signal.
"so. are you going to formally ask her out before you leave?" wilbur asks, anticipation practically dripping off of his words.
"i don't know, will." techno sighs, "wouldn't it hurt her for me to ask her out and then fly back across the country?"
wilbur hums softly, clearly thinking of a response. "true. but it would also hurt her to think that you didn't want to actually be with her, you know? and i know you do."
"i really do."
"then ask her out."
"but-"
"techno, you can always fly back if she misses you. it's not like you can't afford it." wilbur states, "who knows? maybe you'll move to... where does she live again? new york!"
techno laughs, "i don't know about that one."
"and you guys could have babies-"
"i will hang up on you."
"sorry, sorry!" wilbur laughs, "but you never know, long distance might work out for you guys until it gets a little more serious?"
"maybe." he says, pulling into the parking garage and getting out of the car. "i'm just nervous. i'm not one to handle rejection well."
"at least you know that no means no."
"very true. but that doesn't make me any less scared." techno sighs, unlocking the apartment door. "i just really care about her. and i truly want to be with her."
he shuts the door behind him after walking in and kicks his shoes off. "let her know that, alright?"
"i will." he walks up the stairs, "i'm going to hop in the shower, so i'll text you later."
"alright. talk to you later, techno."
"yup."
