Chapter 9 - Ivan

"Y/N! Thank god your okay, I'm so sorry." Rhodey hugs me.

"It's fine....I can fly." I laugh.

"They're coming in hot, any second. What's the play?" Tony asks.

"Well, we want to take the high ground, okay? So let's put the biggest gun up on that ridge." Rhodey points.

They both start to walk, "Got you. Where do you want to be?"

"Where are you going?" Rhodey stops.

"What're you talking about?"

"I meant me." Rhodey nods.

"You have a big gun. You are not the big gun."

Rhodey laughs, "Tony, don't be jealous."

"No. It's subtle all the bells and whistles."

Rhodey sighs, "Yeah. It's called being a badass."

"Fine. All right. You go up to. I'll draw them in."

"Don't stay down here. This is the worst place to be." Rhodey shakes his head.

"Okay, you got a spot. Where's mine?"

"It's the kill box, Tony. Okay This is where you go to die." Drones suddenly touch down and we're stuck.

"Shit." I sigh.

My purple power flows from my hands as I hover above the ground, blasting down at them. I create a rope of power and grab onto one, swinging it around and crashing it into another Drone.

I fly down and grab onto one, crushing its head.

"Rhodey? Get down." I fly high as a laser slices all the drones in half. And a tree.

"Wow. I think you should lead with that next time."

"Yeah. Sorry boss. I can only use it one. It's a one-off." Tony shrugs.

"Head up. You got one more drone incoming. This one looks different. The repulsor signature is significantly higher." Natasha says.

A drone lands and the helmet opens to reveal Ivan. "Good to be back."

"This ain't gonna be good." Ivan's whips turn on. "I got something special for this guy. I'm gonna bust his bunker with the Ex-Wife."

"With the what?" Rhodey shoots it and it bounces off Ivan, fizzling off in the water. "Hammer tech?"

"Yeah."

"I got this." Tony shoots but it Doesn't do much.

I fly up and blast down at him. As I fly up and use my power to hold him in the air, his whip crashes down on me and sends me flying back through the trees.

I groan as I see an explosion, "Y/N?" Tony yells, sliding down to me.

"I'm...fine. I've been through worse."

"You lose." Ivan whispers.

"All these drones are rigged to blow, we gotta get out of here!" Rhodey yells.

"Pepper?" We fly up, Tony flying off.

Rhodey and I land on a roof, sitting down and sigh in in relief as Tony and Pepper land. "Oh my God. I can't take this anymore." Pepper yells.

"You can't?"

"I can't take this." She shakes her head.

"Look at me."

"My body, literally, cannot handle the stress. I never know if you're gonna kill yourself or wreak the whole company." She steps back.

"I think I did okay."

"I quit. I'm resigning. That's it." She steps back again.

"What did you just say? You're done? That's surprising. No, it's not surprising. I get it. You don't have to make excuses."

"I'm... I'm... I'm not making any excuses."

After their rambling they finally kiss, I smile widely...so happy for them.

"Weird?"

"No, it's not weird." Pepper smiles.

"Run that by me again." They start to kiss again.

"I think it was weird." Rhodey speaks up, They break apart and turn around. "You guys look like two seals fighting over a grape."

"I had just quit, actually."

"Yeah, so we're not..." Tony starts.

"You don't have to do that. We heard the whole thing." Rhodey nods.

"You both should get lost." Tony nods.

"We were here first. Get a roof." Rhodey says.

"I thought you were out of one-liners."

Rhodey smiles, "That's the last one."

"You kicked ass back there, by the way. Both of you."

"Thank you. You too. Listen, my car got taken out in the explosion, so I'm gonna have to hang on to your suit for a minute, okay?"

"Not okay. Not okay with that." Tony says.

"It wasn't a question." Rhodey flies off.

"I'll go...." I saw awkwardly, smiling as I fly off.

Finally they were together.
