"Dinner's ready, by the way," he announced on his way into the kitchen. "Come on before it gets cold!"

Dinner seemed to fly by. The three had sat down and eaten Sans's tacos (which were surprisingly good this time) and then went their separate ways. Sans had run off to get ready for bed, Papyrus had gone to his room, both ditching Y/n so she would be the one to do the dishes.

She sighed but nonetheless took the job. It wasn't that much with only three people living in the house, but that didn't make the chore any less annoying to do; especially since the boys hadn't invested in a dish washer (yet).

"Hey Y/n...? Are you almost done?" She turned around to see the owner of the shy voice that had broken her train of thought. She was met with Sans's blue eyes staring over her shoulder, which in turn made her jump. How the heck did he get so close without me realizing it?!

"Uhh yeah. Yeah I am. Do you need something?" she inquired. Sans stepped back and scratched the back of his skull awkwardly.

"Uh I was just curious if...Maybe you could...I dunno...Tell me about the surface before I go to bed...?" he said quietly, fidgeting with his bandana as he spoke. "Only if you want too of course. I was just kinda curious. Don't feel pressured or anything...!"

"Sure, I can do that for you," Y/n said with a smile. "Are you all ready for bed first?"

"Yes, I am," Sans said in a slightly irritated tone. "I'm not a child, human."

"Sorry," Y/n replied with a fake apologetic tone, her grin growing. "You just look so cute with those big blue eyes and matching blue gloves and scarf! Oh, and your adorable armor-!"

"IT'S A FASHION CHOICE TO MAKE ME LOOK COOL, OK?" Sans retorted, hitting Y/n in the shoulder (lightly, he would never actually hurt her). She burst out laughing at his over-the-top reaction. He only fumed more and stomped off, though coming back only a minute or two later to see if she was following him.

After more teasing from Y/n and more explanations from Sans, the two had settled down in his room. The girl sat cross-legged at the foot of his bed while he sat against a small pile of pillows holding a teddy bear. She asked him why he had it, though Sans only replied with "it was a present from when I was little, and I've never been able to sleep without it." She took the answer and didn't press further.

Sans decided to break the silence that ensued with his first question: "What was your family like? On the surface I mean," he asked. Y/n took a moment to contemplate the question. Man, it's been so long since I've thought of my family back home. I wonder if they miss me...

"Hm...Well, I had my parents, my mom and dad," she began slowly. "And I was in the middle of my school year. My parents got along pretty well. The occasional fight would happen, but nothing to bad. People can't get along all the time ya know...But one of them would always go to the other and try to make amends, so they've been together for a long time."

"What about siblings?" Sans asked, his glance sliding to the left (in the direction of Papyrus's room) then back again.

"Yeah I had (a) sibling(s)," she nodded, a smile coming to her lips as she remembered her family more and more. "We got along fairly well when I moved out. We used to fight a lot though when we were younger-"

"You fought with your sibling(s)?!" Sans exclaimed; his face filled with shock. "But siblings don't fight! Me and Papy never do!" Y/n laughed and shook her head.

"It's perfectly normal for siblings to not get along Blue," she said. Sans looked perplexed at the idea. "Like I was saying though, we only didn't get along when we were younger. We got along once we were older and eventually got more chill and mature around each other...Although there was always the "who took my food?!" fight that happened."

Sans nodded. "Interesting. Your family life sounds super different compared to mine. It's always been Papy and I."

"Oh, I've been meaning to ask," Y/n started. "Who did Papyrus stay with while he and you were little? I mean, you don't have a huge age gap, and I don't think an 8-year-old could raise a 3-year-old or something (I don't actually know your ages lol sorry)."

Sans hesitated for a moment, as if trying to recall lost information. "Hmm..." he hummed thoughtfully. He snapped his finger and his eyes sparkled for a moment, "I remember now! Muffet. Muffet took care of both of us while we were little, we lived in her diner upstairs. But Papyrus felt bad for not being able to repay her, so once he was old enough, he moved out with me and started to work for her. I went to school while he worked. It was pretty fun actually."

"Huh, I never would've guessed," Y/n commented. "But then again, I suppose that makes sense." Sans hummed a "yes" in response and the room fell quiet again.

He snuggled into his covers and started to drift off. Y/n flopped onto her back and lay in the silence, occasionally asking Sans various tidbits about his life. He would sleepily respond with random answers according to the question. What it was like in school, the start of why he wanted to be in the Royal Guard, and what he and Papyrus had been like when they were younger. Every answer fascinated her, she loved hearing more about them and getting to know their past more and more.

Eventually they had both drifted off to sleep, leaving the room dark. About an hour later, Papyrus knocked softly on Sans's door. When he didn't get a response, he carefully opened it. Papyrus smiled warmly when he saw Sans snuggled in his covers on his side sleeping soundly and Y/n laying on her back at the foot of his bed, her limbs sprawled every which way.

"You two are adorable," he murmured to himself. Papyrus crossed the room and stood over her, his hands holding onto the footboard. He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her forehead before slipping his hands under her knees and back. He picked her up in a princess carry style and took her out of Sans's room, closing the door behind him with his foot. He carried her to her bedroom down the hallway, gently setting her in her own bed and pulling the covers over her body.

"Good night, honey," he whispered, as he affectionately moved her hair from her face. "Hope you'll sleep better than I will tonight..." He frowned slightly, though shook the thoughts from his mind. He walked out of her room as slowly as he could, then closed the door.

Y/n giggled and turned onto her side.

Sleep well Pap, hopefully we can cure that insomnia soon...
