Chapter 24

"Hey wait -" Bruce started but Natasha pinched his elbow to make him shut up.

"I think I can be pretty romantic when the occasion calls for it," Bucky said taking a drink of his beer

"Hmm, how so?" Natasha asked him and Evelyn looked between her and Wanda and caught on and shook her head wishing she had another glass but instead started eating another slice of pizza trying to act natural.

"Oh no, I'm not giving away my secrets," Bucky shook his head laughing.

"You're no fun," Natasha said leaning back on the couch.

"What about you Steve?" Evelyn asked him trying to keep the conversation going because she felt a jealous pit in her stomach wondering what Bucky had done for other women.

"I think romance is putting the other person ahead of yourself and making sure they feel special and cared for," Steve said thinking.

"I knew you were a hopeless romantic," Evelyn said smiling.

"Guilty," he said smiling back at her.

Wanda yawned and Vision was quick to notice, "Okay everyone we're going to head to bed. I think we've had an exciting day."

Evelyn got up and hugged Wanda again. "Thank you again. I'm glad you were brought into my life."

Wanda looked at her and smiled, "me too."

"I think I'm heading to bed too," Natasha said standing up and giving Evelyn a big hug.

"I'll walk you up," Bruce shot up from his seat making Evelyn laugh.

"Night guys," Steve said, spreading out a little more.

"Night," Bucky said, raising his beer bottle.

When they walked out Evelyn sat back in her spot close to Bucky. "You guys said you can't get drunk from beer?"

"Nope," Bucky said, taking another drink.

"Oh gross - you guys drink beer for the taste," Evelyn laughed at the two men.

"Beers not so bad," Steve said laughing at Evelyn's face.

"Agree to disagree," Evelyn said, bringing up her leg under her.

"What do you have planned for tomorrow?" Steve asked, opening another beer.

"I plan on doing some baking to take to the VA next week but other than that I think my fainting spell ruined any chances that Wanda will be doing another training with me," Evelyn said leaning her head back feeling the coolness of Bucky's left arm.

"You can join us for the run in the morning," Bucky said looking over at her.

She thought about it for a second, "that'd be awesome. I've never been to a city this large before."

"You've never been to New York?" Steve asked, leaning his arm on the opposite arm of the couch.

"No, I'm a simple small town kind of gal," Evelyn grinned at him. "My hometown had one stop sign and a little mom and pop grocery store."

"Wow, that's definitely a small town," Steve said laughing.

"You guys grew up here - in Brooklyn right?" Evelyn asked looking over at Bucky

"Yeah, how did you know it was Brooklyn?" Bucky asked taking a drink of his beer.

"I can hear it a little in some of the things you two say - especially to each other" Evelyn said still looking into Bucky's eyes.

"I didn't think we had accents," Steve said, bringing Evelyn attention to him smiling.

"Of course you don't - you're the one talking. I love accents; I always have. Growing up in Ohio we don't have accents and me and my friends were obsessed with them growing up," Evelyn laughed.

"So what's your favorite accent?" Bucky said grinning at her.

"Oh no. I'm not telling either of you the answer to that question. Not having that information used against me. I haven't been here long but that sounds like information Tony would abuse," Evelyn laughed and stood up to go into the kitchen for a drink.

"Oh come on!" Steve said from the couch, "we just care if it's the Brooklyn accent."

"She's blushing Steve. I think we got our answer," Bucky said teasing her.

Evelyn shook her head and laughed "I hate both of you."

Bucky smiled at her as she walked around the couch and pulled her down next to him before she could walk past him, "that's not very nice."

Evelyn slapped him playfully and got up and walked to Steve and gave him a hug, "I'm sorry Steve - I don't hate you."

"I know Evelyn," Steve said laughing at Bucky's shocked face as Evelyn plopped down next to Bucky and stuck her tongue out at him.

"I share my ice cream and pizza with you and he's the one you give a hug to?" Bucky said shaking his head at her.

"You got to dance with me two times," Evelyn said, shrugging.

"Two times?" Steve said, raising his eyebrow at them.

"Not my fault he let Roy dance with you instead of doing the dance he asked you for," Bucky said laughing.

"Hey, I was going to dance with her but then she punched someone in the face and went upstairs with you," Steve said, making Evelyn snort into her drink.

"Oh that makes me sound so horrible," Evelyn said putting her face in her hands laughing. "I promise I won't punch anyone in the face at the next party until I dance with you Steve."

"I'll hold you to that," Steve said taking a drink laughing
