"Your hand," Marley said gently, and held out her hand. Isaac put his on top of hers like a sensitive glass sculpture. Marley turned his hand moved and placed it on the dog's back. His eyes lingered on hers for a moment. She took her hands off of his.
Black veins seeped through from the dog and into Isaac. They traveled up his hand, wrist and then arm. He pulled away. "What did I do?"
"You took some of his pain," Marley said. She felt warm and nostalgic.
"Only a little bit. But sometimes a little can make quite the difference," Deaton said. Isaac held his hand to his face and blinked the water from his eyes.
"It's okay. First time he showed me, I cried too," Scott said. Isaac chuckled and looked prouder in himself than he had ever been before.
...
"They're leaving tonight, during the game," Isaac said as he leant against the table. Deaton had take Marley into the other room to check on the dogs; something about her made them calm.
"So, why are you telling me?" Scott asked, closing the medicine cabinet.
"I'm not telling you. I'm asking you. For your advice," Isaac said.
"From me? Why?" Scott said and Isaac sighed.
"Because I trust you," he said.
Scott moved to stand opposite him. "Why?"
"Because you always seem to want to do the right thing," Isaac said. "And I trust you with Marley. I saw how you and Stiles cared for her at the Sheriff station. You were there for her when I wasn't."
Ever since running into Marley at Derek's loft, her words had engraved themselves into his mind. 'When you decide who's more important'. From then on, he knew who he wanted to be with. He just didn't know how. And he felt terrible, sick in fact, when he saw Marley injured. She still had the bandage around her wrist.
"I usually have no idea what I'm doing. Actually, I always have no idea what I'm doing," Scott chuckled half-heartedly.
"Do you wanna let me know what you're doing?" Isaac asked. Marley walked back in with a box of medical supplies Deaton had asked her to put away.
"I'm not going anywhere if that's what you mean. I have too many people here who need me," Scott said, his eyes jumping to Marley who had perched herself against the desk again.
"Well I guess that makes me lucky cause- uh, cause I don't have anyone," Isaac said slowly. "Anymore."
Marley looked at the back of his head longingly. It wasn't true. He had her. But she understood why he didn't feel that way. He had left her and betrayed her in so many ways. Isaac didn't think that she would still care for him.
"Are you gonna go with them?" Scott asked as Isaac moved to the door frame.
"Yeah. Yeah, I think I will," Isaac said, a peace of his heart breaking. A large part of Marley's did as well.
"Um, I should be getting home," Marley said, her voice hoarse from the sudden urge to cry. She moved around the table and smiled at Scott. "Tell Deaton I said thank you."
"I will," Scott said and waved goodbye.
"Can I walk you home?" Isaac asked. He expected her to say no. But-
"Sure."
...
"So..."
