"You okay?" Stiles asked as he nudged Marley's arm. She nodded. "I'm glad your back to being normal. I'll deny it to the real world, but I missed you the last week of summer."
"Wow, Stiles. Was that another emotion besides sarcasm?" Marley asked, smiling cheekily at him.
"Oh haha. How's Isaac?"
"He's okay," Marley said as she sighed. "I think he's just a little worried about Boyd and Erica. Y'know they're like siblings to him."
Stiles nodded as he thought. Stiles was an only child and had always been. He was never experienced what having a large family was like. Scott was his best friend and basically a brother. But that just kind of came with the guy to guy best friend package. But with Marley, it was different. Stiles was friends with Allison but he didn't feel that kind of connection with her. Marley was like his sister. He would be protective of her and always care about her. Like when they went to the gay club, he made sure that she didn't get lost. It was like Stiles adopted her as a sister. That was a true bond.
As all of these thoughts went through Stiles's head, Allison watched Marley, desperately wanting to apologise.
...
"Hey, uh, that's good Marley," Allison said, pointing her paint brush at Marley's canvas.
They sat on their stools in front of their canvases and painted the vase of yellow roses. Marley's was coming along well; she had just finished painting the red vase and the stems of the flowers.
"Thank," Marley said, giving an inward smile back to Allison. She didn't want to be upset with her, but she couldn't just let it go.
"Look Marley," Allison said, "I'm sorry for stabbing you. I was just in a really bad place. I was upset about Scott. Not that that's an excuse. I just- I really am sorry."
"It's okay," Marley smiled and finally looked at the girls eyes. They were remorseful. She could see that.
"Could we go back to being friends?" Allison asked. Marley smiled brightly, changing her paintbrush, and turning back to Allison.
"Of course," Marley said. "And it's fine cause I got a rad scar out of it, so."
Allison laughed, making Marley remember the good old times they shared. She had missed Allison over the summer, of course never admitting it. Now, it was like noting had ever changed.
"Pretty ironic how yellow roses symbolise friendship," Marley said, brushing the paint graciously.
"Yeah?" Allison said, now intrigued.
"In Greek mythology, when Adonis died, roses grew from where his blood had spilled, meaning new beginnings. And yellow symbolises happiness," she said. "Put those together. Means this new friendship is going to be stronger than ever."
It was.
...
"Lydia please stop goggling over the twins and help me solve this mathematic equation," Marley said. Her arm leant on the table as it held her head up.
In math class, partners were supposed to solve a sheet of Einstein-level mathematical theories. Marley was basically pulling her hair out, and Lydia was fantasising about the new twins.
"Oh I already worked it out," Lydia said, shrugging her shoulders. Marley's arm dropped and hit the table.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"The answer's thirty five X minus nine point seven one squared," Lydia said, keeping her eyes on the boys in front of them.
"Okay," Marley sighed as she scribbled the answer down. "Which one do you want?"
