Francesco fell dramatically to the ground and the twins rolled their eyes and walked right over him towards the garage. "I am dying and you are walking right over me! How can I call you my brothers?"
Apparently yelling the word dying summons Saint Remo because he came out of nowhere fretting over Francesco who was taking all the attention he got while Dante and Leonardo walked off after the twins. I glanced at my twin and with a shrug, I followed everyone else, too tired to deal with any more dramatics and yelling. I'm just thankful my nerves aren't completely shot yet because I was able to hide the tremors and flinches at the yelling.
Leonardo took our suitcase when we got close to one of the SUVs we were taking and threw it in the back and the three of us crawled into the back of the car and snuggled together and Quinn began to drift off laying her head on Sawyer's shoulder. Sawyer put in the AirPods that we were bought and I assumed he started to listen to a crime podcast as usual and I followed his actions but played a mix of some music Quinn thought I would like. Leonardo was driving and Dante was in the passenger seat and the twins were in the middle row and someone said something but I ignored them and looked out the window as the car began to head out of the giant garage and onto their driveway.
We drove for a while but I didn't mind with music letting me block out all my other thoughts. We finally got to an airport and the car slowed down and I turned my music down but didn't turn it off. Leonardo told us we were taking a private jet and that we shouldn't worry about our suitcase and because we were too tired to argue we nodded and followed the twins. Adriano looked at us weirdly when we complied but he seemed to just shrug it off.
The plane we were led to seemed smaller than the one we flew here on but in all reality I had no clue about the sizing of planes so I had no idea about how extravagant the plane was on top of this family owning a private jet. I would probably ask Quinn about that later but for now, I shrugged it off and walked up the stairs of the plane. I ignored how fancy it all looked and found a small area for my twins and me.
Everyone came onto the plane at their own pace with the twins on with us first and then Alessandro came on last after talking with who I assume to be the flight staff of the plane. Francesco insisted on sitting near us and everyone else spread out on the plane. One of the staff went over the rules which were a bit different than the ones on the other plane but were similar enough. She left saying she would come back soon to take drink requests and Quinn pulled out one of our old Russian book which got the attention of Francesco who seemed to be watching us like a hawk until the plane got his attention as it began to move and I went back to looking for something to do so I didn't fall asleep.
When the plane was in the aid Francesco's attention turned back to the three of us although Quinn was absorbed in her book and Sawyer was looking out the window listening to his podcast. Francesco seemed confused for a second then brightened up when he looked at Quinn. "Where did you get that book from? Is that how you learned Russian? That is Russian right?"
Quinn gave me a terrified look under her guarded face and I took over for her, "Our Papi gave it to us when we were kids, he taught us Russian and this book was one of the ones he used to teach us to read it."
This conversation seemed to catch the attention of everyone which quite honestly I was not in the mood for at all. "So what happened to him?" Angelo smacked Adriano on the back of the head but I wasn't surprised that it was Adriano who asked it.
Sawyer, who I guess was paying attention now, answered, "He was shot on duty saving someone else." We got looks because I knew they were thinking we were heartless because we didn't seem sad about his death but honestly if we let those emotions out we would fall apart and all we have done since he died was try as hard as we could to stay together.
"He seemed like a great man."Alessandro piped in watching all of us closely.
I nodded, "He was," I was purposely curt and wanted all of this socializing to be over.
"How did he get custody of you guys?" Angelo asked.
Sawyer probably knew I was in a bitchy mood so he answered, "Our bio-mom gave him custody when we were little, probably around one I think."
"We were eleven months old and a few days," Quinn added.
"Mom choose him?" That seemed to get the interest of all of them for whatever reason she clearly didn't want to be around so why do they care.
Sawyer and I nodded Quinn just watched the whole interaction quietly. I wish I could know if she was actually okay although I knew there was no way for her to be okay.
"Why did she wait that long to give you up?" Alessandro asked.
Sawyer shrugged, "Papi only said that she loved us but was unable to take care of us the way we deserved." The subject of our bio parents never really came up when we were little. We were happy with Papi and never needed anyone else but somewhere in my mind I always blamed myself for why she gave us up even though I had no reason to believe that.
"Why don't the three of you try and get some sleep for a while you look exhausted?" Remo seemed concerned but I didn't see the big deal the three of us were used to going a long time without sleeping.
They didn't give us a chance to reply as they switched to Italian thinking we couldn't understand what they were saying. They spoke quietly but they mostly discussed the travel plans and then something about us getting interviewed at the station. The most interesting part though was something about a meeting Alessandro was going to although no names were said and it was never clear what the meeting was about.
After they were quiet I rested my head on Quinn's lap and she ran her hand through my hair and I drifted off.
I was shaken awake by Quinn and I gave her a questioning look. "We're almost here. They want us to be awake because they have something they want to tell us." She spoke in Russian and Sawyer was also just waking up. I hope Quinn slept some, sleeping in the car was not enough rest for her especially because once we're back in Nevada I doubt we'll be sleeping well if at all.
I looked up to Alessandro and gave him a look telling him to talk. I loved the fact that I controlled the conversation although they always seemed hesitant to let me have it. I'm not even sure if they knew they were giving me the power but until they do I will use it to my fullest advantage.
"When we land we will go to the hotel and sleep in the morning we are going to the police station to interview the three of you separately."
That got my attention, "Separately?"
"Yes, it's customary procedure they just want to know what you each remember."
I shrugged knowing this was a pointless battle to fight and I already had a plan to deal with this.
"After that, all of you can go exploring in the city for a while. The day after will be the last day of the trial and you three will testify and then your step-father will get charged. The next morning we will head home."
He made it sound so simple but it wasn't. I was going to do everything in my power to make sure my twins and I were safe through all this and that meant making sure no one knew what happened in that house.
I just nodded, which got us a few concerned looks, "Are you guys okay?" Leonardo was watching us closely looking for cracks in our faces and body language but there weren't any. He was trained by the world of business. We were trained in a world a lot worse.
He sighed but the instructions for landing came on so the conversation thankfully ended at that.
