Rainy on the other hand, they had many similarities now that she was older, when I met with Wolf four years ago because of my friendship with Gabriel, he only saw the old pictures I had, but Rainy had grown. Looking down I held the new picture placing it on the desk pushing it towards him, my eyes focused on his intently. Waiting for sign that he knew his wife and mate was once pregnant, that she had dumped her two children at the doorsteps of another pack. “What’s this?” he asked before taking it, “take a look,” I murmured resting back. Ready to let the chips fall where they may, leaning forward he reached for the picture, eyeing me warily, before even glancing at the photo, but once he does, I see it and I silently wish that I had Chelsea’s gift of mind reading. I watch each minor line on his face twist, I hear his heart beat unsteadily, and I see the confusion as he studies the picture, his eyes darting to my eyes then back down again.

“Who…” he shakes his head.

“This – this – it’s your Rainy,” he stumbles, something I have never witnessed Wolf Colt do since I’ve known him, “How?” he whispers. “You,” he shoots up to his feet, he flings the photo at me angrily, “No… I don’t know what you’re playing at here kid, but I’m not buying it,” Wolf spat, his nose flaring out, spit flying out with his words. The hate in his eyes, burned me, standing myself “You think I want something from you besides help with Robert? You think I want my sister to know that the people you lead are no better than the men that raped her for ten years? I’ve done horrible things in my life, so maybe I deserve you, but Rainy, she deserves more than you for a father!” his eyes widened impossibly “Oh… and Rainy is a silver wolf.” I left just as he was falling back into his chair.

Oakley POV

Many things had changed since I had come to the island, granted I had spent the greater portion in a bed, Chelsea and Lux both had been coming to help me learn to concentrate and learn to be observant of my surroundings. I didn’t have my wolf fully just yet, however, I did have enhanced senses, ones that since I’ve gotten them only brought me pain. Overhearing conversations that I didn’t want too, that no one should.

One of the good things Chelsea and Lux complimented on was the fact that I had been working to build my endurance long before I had come here. While in bed for nearly one week – awake – we practiced on my sense of smell and listening. Learning to track footsteps, how certain people walking sounded different, their scents, learning just how far a scent was, the wind carrying it. Techniques to help if I were being followed or cased such as listening and not just hearing sound – echoes – but tracking distance as well.

And so as I made my way home, gripping my crutches harder than normal, I concentrated on the footsteps behind me. Softer than they should be, but still five or six steps behind me, I stopped abruptly, spinning to face Kieran once again. Just waiting, for something.

“Are you planning on hitting me or something? Because of what I did to your brother?” I asked, but distracted as well, “and – and why can’t I catch your scent when you’re human? Why did you shift back? I thought you didn’t like to be human?” I blurted out one question after the other, keeping my eyes on his face and not his bare chest or dirty feet.

He glanced away, then back with his face almost absent turned brooding, “Why would I hit you?” his voice rough probably from not using it very much.
