?Chapter 14: The Men?

"Max!" You started, "Oh you couldn't have come a second sooner!" You said, giving the horse a hug, before hopping on, followed by everyone else. You were surprised that all four of you could fit, "Take us home, big guy!"

Rapunzel took the graphtyc out of her bag, "These guys want whatever this is pretty badly." She handed it up to you.

"Something tells me we won't make it to the castle." You said, taking a good look at the invention before handing it back to Rapunzel.

Eugene nodded, "She's right. We need somewhere to hide and come up with a plan."

"I know just the place. " Rapunzel who was sitting behind you wrapped her arms around you and grabbed the reigns, "Yah!" She said, directing Maximus where to go. You took a full U-turn and headed in a direction that looked dark and gloomy, through the woods. Rapunzel took a stop and you were on the side of a cliff, "We're here." She said.

Eugene looked around, "Here? Where's here?" He asked what everyone was thinking. The side of the cliff seemed more like you were trapped than hidden.

"You said we needed a place to hide. Here we are." Rapunzel said, getting off of Maximus who seemed to know exactly where you were.

Eugene looked super confused, "And once again, where is here?" He asked.

You heard Owl hoot from the woods, "They're following us." Cassandra said.

"Guys, come on!" Rapunzel used vines to start climbing down the side of the cliff, "What are you slowpokes waiting for?" She asked. You quickly grabbed a vine and started climbing down the cliff followed by the others. As you got down to the ground you noticed the gloomy state of the forest around you. Something felt weird. The forest felt empty as if even the animals didn't want to be down here. Rapunzel started walking towards a bunch of kudzu before moving it aside, "Eugene, I'm surprised you didn't recognize where we are. She moved the plants aside and you found yourself staring at a tower. Your jaw dropped, this was THE tower. "Actually, now I'm not sure I recognize it." Surrounding the tower was a bunch of black rocks.

You started walking forward, missing the whole conversation that Cassandra and Eugene were having. Instead, you were staring at the tower, it was dilapidated and lonely looking. You assumed that the waterfall behind it should help it look nicer, but the state of the tower overshadowed the beauty of the water.

The four of you had made your way up the tower, you stood in the middle of the main room and looked around. About 70 feet of long brown hair lay on the ground from where Eugene had cut Rapunzel's hair. Over next to a closed glass window was a shattered mirror and a knife that had blood on it.

Eugene appeared to be trying to give a tour, "Oh, and this is where she hit me with a frying pan for the very first time." You chucked before covering your mouth, "Little known fact, but the blow actually improved my hairline." He and you shared a look, "Yeah, pre-pan, cowlick, post-pan, perfection."

"Good times, huh?" You snarked.

Eugene rolled his eye before grabbing your shoulders and rubbing your hair back and forth, "Oh, haha." He said sarcastically.

Rapunzel pulled out a chair and sat down on it, looking closely at the graphtyc, "What is so important about this thing?" She asked out loud.

Eugene pulled you and Max over towards where the window was, "Oh, uh, watch your step, pal. That's where I died. See?" He said to Max who was stepping on a tile that had a red stain on it.

"Sheesh." You said, leaning down to look at the stain, "Yeah, you definitely died here."

Eugene's eyes widened, "What's that supposed to mean?!" You shrugged.
