Finally! It's been the fourth revision of The Art and Mending and I am so flattered that you bear with me! I can't express my gratitude towards my silent readers so much. I'm so happy that every time I revise this book, people still read it and support it.
Every time I revise this story, I see my growth as a writer. I saw how I can already fix the errors and know a lot of things that I wasn't really aware of before.
This story is written based on Yee's personality and attitude. From her words, the way of her narration and acts are all based on her perspectives so I can really give the spice of the story of a childish and immature teenager for her time. If you noticed, Yee's vocabulary from the early chapter's very limited (like may mga words na paulit-ulit) and kinda child-like, because she is! Her character is like that and she's not fond of Tagalog very well so I have to make sure that I can show it through her narration, until she reaches maturity where it is visible how her way of narration— improved, right?
Writing The Art of Mending made me realize that when you write, you really have to make sure that you can internalize the character's factors and aspects. It was such a great deal of discovery for my writing journey.
This story is still kind of the 'light' genre for me. Hindi pa siya masyadong nag-tackle ng mga mas siryosong mga problema but this time, I revised this book to tackle and put some points on how people should realize that 'Love', can really wait.
I made sure that even tho the story's phase was kinda slow, I put the character's emotion and vision in life to it. As you can see, Yee— just like any other girl around her age, natural lang talaga na mabulag sila sa idea of 'falling in love ".
In fact, young people these days are just in love with the idea of 'being in love' that is why I wanted to show through this story how 'Love' can be set aside in the meantime.
Isa si Yee sa pinaka pinakisamahan kong character sa lahat ng draft stories na nagawa ko. I want the readers to see how Yee's personality is until her maturity. Kasi her affection for a certain person will serve lots of relatedness and realizations.
Alas's character was almost a good type of a boy, kaya in the middle of revising it, I made sure that there's gonna be a contrast to his attitude so that the story will make sense.
Take note of how much Alas wants to give Yee's happiness. It's selfless, leading him to be lost and be broken because of too much selflessness.
I want people to see that being selfless for others' sake can affect your sanity as well. Keeping pain within yourself could lead to broken pieces.
Also, let's not forget Yee's Grandmother's advice: "Your value doesn't decrease based on someone's inability to see your worth."
You are worth it.
One time I attended a memorable webinar and the 抖阴社区r reminded us of a lesson, which I also want to share with you.
Just Like Yee and Alas' experience, in life 'We can fall in love, break our hearts and experience life."
Remember that the only person who can mend your heart is yourself. So put yourself first.
Sometimes, it is not bad to prioritize yourself; be you, chase dreams, grab opportunities, be successful, and reach your goal.
Love has its time-bound, if it is the right time, it will come for you. So don't waste your days seeking 'happiness' that you yourself can offer.
I'm dedicating this book to all the young people whose currently caught up with the thought of Love.
My dearest fellow youth, we will arrive there at the right time.
To my friends who supported me during this story's drafts and revisions, you kept me sane.
To Ms. Eli who taught me how to improve my writing skills.
To my parents who keep on reminding me about lessons of love and how it can wait. Thank you for opening my mind and supporting my success and offers.
And I'm deeply and emotionally thanking my reference for Alas's character for allowing me to grow and learn from his mature mindset. For allowing me to use some of his words to make sense in this story.
I also wanted to thank God for letting me explore Yee's growing journey. For letting me express her side and words of wisdom.
This book may still contains grammatical, punctuation, and typographical errors, even if it is revised already.
I am hoping that even though this story didn't tackle much, you still learned something from my very own Chraelle Light Yeera and Skylerneil Alas.
Fate is unpredictable, so choose your own path. Love will still beat even after fulfilling your dreams.
Work hard, sacrifice, and Strive High— it is all worth it.
Thank you so much for bearing with me on my journey to be a better writer.
Stay Safe Always, Nuivs!
