"It wasn't you. I... wasn't used to having visions then. It was like having nightmares during the day. When I saw you, it brought a scary vision to my mind."
"What was it?"
"You know I can't tell you that. Maybe someday, but not today." Fred gave a nod, accepting her words better than she'd thought.
They watched the sunset in silence, staring out at the majestic view. Olivia leaned her head against his shoulder and it seemed like a wordless conversation passed through them. I'm here, it's going to be okay. And with that, the awkwardness between them faded as if that one odd moment had never happened.
-
"Bets! Place your bets!" George and Fred called out. It was the first task of the Triwizard Tournament and the twins had set up a gambling booth. It seemed they were truly businessmen in nature. Olivia didn't even bother with them. Instead, she sat with a very bright-eyed Luna.
"Hello there," Luna greeted sweetly, excitement clear despite her soft voice.
"Hi, Luna. Did you hear what the challenge is?" Olivia prompted, already knowing the answer.
"Yes, dragons. I'm quite afraid for Harry. Do you think he'll do alright?" Olivia gave her a smile, knowing full well how much Luna admired Harry.
"He's a talented wizard. I'm sure he'll be fine." Luna nodded at Olivia's words and they both turned their heads as the start of the task was announced.
As the dragons nearly killed each and every competitor, the crowd cheered. Olivia had no idea how they could find it entertaining. For her, it was more of a horror movie. Every movement made her flinch.
At some point, she found herself leaning against the railing beside Fred, smushed between roaring students. The dragon moved closer to Fleur, nearly knocking her off her feet, and Olivia found herself hiding against a sturdy chest. When she realized what she was doing, she went to pull away, but Fred pulled her closer, murmuring something incoherently. It was an oddly comforting gesture.
She spent the entirety of the task huddled by Fred. Indeed, she had to keep her eyes closed as the dragon chased Harry, despite knowing that everything would be alright in the end.
Even with her visions, she felt as if she'd done something wrong that could result in something terrible. It didn't help that Olivia was already an anxious person. Fred's more easy-going personality balanced her out and it was comforting for her to be around him.
"It's over now. You alright, love?" Olivia pulled away and looked at Fred with a grateful smile.
"Yes, thank you," she said in reply. Fred nodded and ran over to George, who was hollering for him, and they finished their business with the gambling booth. Olivia decided she would head back to the castle. She made her way down the steps, weaving through the crowd of chatting students.
"You look much better now. You were quite pale during the event, you know," came Luna's voice from beside Olivia. Olivia smiled at the girl's bluntness, not sure how to answer.
"Thank you?" Luna only blinked and looked down at her fingers twiddling with her knit jumper.
She suddenly looked up and said, "Walk back to the castle with me?" Olivia gave a smile and a nod, holding out her elbow for Luna to take.
They made it about halfway back, chatting about the library's best nooks when they were interrupted by a sneering voice.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't Loony Lovegood," said Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle sniggering behind him. Luna swallowed, looking down at her shoes. Malfoy's lip curled.
"What is that you're wearing, cousin? Did you find that in an attic somewhere? It's ghastly." Crabbe and Goyle were cackling at this point, holding their stomachs in laughter as a smug expression settled behind Draco's feigned disgust.
"I'd be willing to bet you pulled that off your dead mother. Never was a looker, that one-" He was cut off as Olivia lunged, grabbing him by the collar and dragging him off into the woods. Crabbe and Goyle protested, but Olivia shot a spell at them, temporarily petrifying them.
"Go on to the castle, Luna, I'll meet up with you later," Olivia yelled over her shoulder. Luna stared at her, eyes wide, then skittered off. Good.
Olivia shoved Malfoy against a tree, just out of view.
"What the hell was that," she whisper-yelled.
"Hey! What was that for?" Draco shot back, wiping the blood off his split lip.
Olivia scoffed. "I really don't know what to think of you, Malfoy. One second, I think you're not that bad, then you go and do this." Olivia gestured wildly. "Merlin, she's your cousin. A pureblood. If that's how you treat her, I don't even want to know what you do to others. What is wrong with you?"
Draco rolled his eyes. "Sod off, will you. It's none of your business."
"None of my business?" Olivia screeched. "I'm not going to let an asshole like you prance around making people's lives miserable. She's my friend. Do that again, and I will rip you to shreds, do you hear me?"
Malfoy ignored the threat, raising his eyebrows. "Well, you do have terrible taste in friends. You really shouldn't associate with blood traitors like those Weaslebees. I suppose Jasper was always better at making friends, wasn't he?" Olivia slapped him.
"Ow."
"Let me make this very clear. Just because you are friends with Jasper, does not mean you are friends with me." She pulled away, shaking her head. "You know, when I saw what you'll do in the future, I thought maybe you weren't such a garbage person after all. Maybe you were just hurt. But look at you now. I can't believe I ever gave you a chance."
Then, she looked up at Malfoy. Surprise flitted through his eyes, shock even. Then, Olivia realized the mistake she'd made. She'd just revealed that she could see the future.
