I return to the kitchen and finally cleaned the rest of my mess. Hopefully tonight I will be able to finally figure out the secret to making a loaf of bread.

"Daphne!" A little too excited Claudia bounced on top of me and yanked back my blanket which I'd covered my face with.

Her blonde hair flopped onto her back. Her smile was big and bright as ever which made me glow as well. I love seeing her in such wonderful moods. Really gives this big empty house some warmth.

"The sun has just set, let's play." She tried to pull me out of the bed.

The girl is still in her nightgown. I let her pull me until I sit up. Claudia has an endless flow of energy that I wish I had. Mine vanished the moment I heard of my mama's death.

I haven't seen Papa in a long time. I'm not even sure if he is still alive. I certainly don't want to find out either.

"Alright, my Claudia let us get dressed," I say as she wrapped her thin arms around my neck. My face is surrounded by blonde curls. I have to close my eyes so strands of hair won't poke me. I have to teach her to not choke me one of these nights.

Poor child can't control her own strength.

"Yes, mama." She almost shouted in my ears before leaping off the bed and rushing back to her room right across from mine. I spot her pink wall all the way from where I sit. Her big white four-poster bed has a huge peach canopy resting on top. Making her a true princess.

On the bed sits all of her dolls that Lestat gives her every year. Last year I finally figured out what they are for. Lestat gifts them to her because she reminds him of a beautiful doll and also because it is the night when she became one of them.

I get up quickly and close my dark brown door. I turn around and look at the rack of expensive dresses that were gifted to me by Louis. He gave them to me as a present for my last birthday. I went up and instantly started to go through them. They are all so beautiful that I can't seem to pick which one to wear.

"I'm fond of the navy blue gown with the tight lace sleeves, makes your lovely green eyes sparkle," Lestat said from behind me. I turn quickly and gasped. Both my hands jerked over my racing heart. I'm still shocked by his ability to read thoughts.

"My apologies dearest Sweet I'm only here to please you." Lestat shrugged his shoulders and sat down on my unmade bed. I scoffed as he gestured for me to put the dress on. The nerve of this man is ridiculous.

"You must form a habit of knocking, after all, I am the only human who lives in this house," I say when I regretfully took the dark blue dress off the wooden hanger. All Lestat did was give away a tiny chuckle. Of course, he would never knock on his own home. That would be so low of him, how could I forget?

"I know what you were putting in the ground yesterday," Lestat said as I twirled my finger to make him turn around. Privacy is a much-needed thing in this growing world and he damned well better respect mine.

He raised an eyebrow but slowly turns around. I took off my nightgown whilst looking over my shoulder. If I catch him peaking I will surely hit him on the head with the large stick that I keep hidden beneath the mattress.

"I haven't the slightest idea of what you are referring to," I say as I slip the dress over my head. Damn, I forget that this is a corset dress. I will need someone to tighten it for me.

Before I fully turn around Lestat is already at my side with his hands latched onto the drawstrings. I huff in annoyance. His mind-reading thing really gets on my nerves sometimes. He can always tell what I'm feeling or thinking. It may be a good resource for his prey but it is such a pain for me.
