"Carl is still investigating her last known whereabouts," I nod my head again. Carl may be the youngest of the group but he's smart. He graduated from school the same year as us when he was supposed to graduate after us. He got many colleges wanting to get him but he decided to stay in the pack and went to the local college on pack lands. I have faith that he will find Alice.
"Then why are you here?" I asked him. I didn't mean to come off rude but Christian has no reason to be in my office right unless it's to keep me informed. "I'm here to collect some of the paperwork. I could tell that you were behind and I'm here to offer my help," he said.
"While I am extremely grateful that you offered I can't. Most of the work here is for an Alpha, which means it needs my signature and all that. You can help with the new fighting routines but it's not much," I told him as I looked for the files for fighting routines. "I'll take what I can get. And remember we use the train for this since we were little. So those files that need to be 'Alpha approved' I can still take a look at them and all you have to do is sign them," he explained to me and once I thought about it I realized that that is not a bad idea. It will take so much of this work off my shoulders.
"OK, let's do it," I handed him half the files on my desk and he made his way back over to the couch with the coffee table in front of it. "OK so you go over those files and whatever you think needs my attention or what needs my signature then you bring it up with me," I said to him and he nod his head at me.
2 hours later
It's been 2 hours and Christian and I are still in my office finishing up this stupid paperwork. It's like it's everlasting. You finish one stack of files and when you look there is another one ready for you. I dropped my pen on my desk and leaned back in my chair and sigh. Christian by this time has gotten comfortable in the chair while still going over some of the paperwork.
Knock Knock
"Come in," I asked the omega female that brought us lunch. "Thank you," I said to her as she gave me my plate before going to Christian. He thanked her as well then she bowed her head and left without saying a word. I placed the paper aside and dug into my chicken sandwich.
I wonder if Ellie is eating over there right now?
It's been 2 hours, how long does it take to accept rejection? Did she change her mind last minute? Does she still want to be with him? What if she does? Why hasn't she called me yet?
No, I need to stop doubting her. She said she wouldn't and I have to trust and have faith that she will come back to me. I release a heavy breath and closed my eyes. This is not new to me. When I'm away from Ellie for too long, my brain goes haywire. Every time I try to think, an image of her pops up and I can't get anything done. That's why I'm around her so much. I like being in her presence and smelling her scent. It just puts me in a state of calmness.
"You alright there Jacob," Christian asked me, and I was forcefully snapped out of my trance. I looked at Christian before clearing my throat. "Yeah, I'm fine," I said before heading back to my sandwich. Then something clicked.
"Christian," I called out to him and he answered. "Yeah,"
"The day that Ellie's sister turned herself into the pack, Ellie was a bit shaken. Until you whispered something to her and suddenly she was fine. What did you say to her?" The question has been on my time for a long time but I never got around to asking it. "I told her what she wanted to hear," that does not answer my question.
"Which was," I trailed off, wanting to know more. "What did she want to hear?" I added.
"That she's in control," I narrowed my eyebrows at him in confusion. "Why does she feel she needs to be in control?" I asked him before moving my now empty plate aside. "After the hold ordeal with her mate, Ellie felt like she is losing control of everything going on in her life. So when she feels that way she tries to remind herself to stop focusing on what she can't control and start focusing on what she can. Soon, she would have me tell her whenever she feels that way. Since she's done it for so long, it gives her a sense of normalcy,"
I had no idea about this.
"Why you though? I mean I'm not trying to be rude or anything I just thought that maybe she would tell something like that to her parents,"
He let out a small chuckle before lowering his head a bit. "Ellie and I were together," my eyebrows shot up in shock. That shock eventually turned into jealousy. I clenched my fist in anger but I restrain myself from attacking him. I can't be jealous of who Ellie was with in the past. That was before me and I was still recovering from losing Ashley. With that in mind, I tried to lessen my anger because I have no right to be.
"And I was a terrible boyfriend to her," she said with a sigh. "Ellie had it rough for the first year her mate rejected her and I didn't make it any better for her. I cheated on her," that made the anger come back. My hands were on my chair breaking the handle and a growl escaped me. Christian didn't seem fazed by it.
"I was not a good boyfriend and I took her for granted. Somewhere deep down I knew we wouldn't last. We would always fight about the silliest things and make up some dumb excuses to not talk to each other for days. I knew that what I was doing was wrong but I didn't care. I did it anyways. When Ellie found out I was so ashamed of what I did. She didn't want to talk to me and I wasn't ready to face her. So I used that excuse for a year. I knew that she became short-tempered because of me but I didn't want to accept it. I didn't want to acknowledge what I've done," he admitted to me. I was still angry at him for breaking Ellie even more than she must've felt at the time. I was so angry that I could end his life right here right now.
But I heard the sadness in his voice. I could feel the shame that he feels. It was then that I realized that he knew what he did was wrong and he accepted. He's lucky I still consider him a best friend. "I'm sure she'll forgive you eventually," I said to him in a rough voice that I was still trying to calm. Surely, she would. She forgave me when I thought she wouldn't. Sure she may have given him the silent treatment for a year but they're a part of the executive group for the pack. They have to.
"She did," he said to me which threw me off guard. "She forgave me yesterday. I still can't believe that she did. I didn't think that she would even give me the time of the day but she did. We talked and we listened to one another and we came to an understanding," a smile came to his face after that and my anger went away. If Ellie forgave him then there was no reason to be angry. I'm just glad they can work things out between themselves.
"And if I'm being honest, I think most have something to do with you," he said and I was again stuck with confusion. "Ellie has been more open ever since you came around than she has been in 3 years. We all see the change you have made in her. Whatever it is that is going on between you and her, just know that we are all thankful to you," he finished and I felt a smile make its way to my lips. "Truth is, Ellie is the one who saved me. She may not know it but she's one of the reasons why I get up every day and face the new challenges that lie ahead," I paused.
"She's my rock, my anchor,"
"Then I'm glad to know that you saved each other," he stated and I nod my head. The smile never left my face. I turned around and saw the mountain load of files still waiting to be looked over and I frowned.
"Hey, why don't we take a break? These files aren't going anywhere any time soon," I suggested, and he nodded. I packed them away on my desk while Christian packed them on the coffee table in front of him.
Maybe I should get him a desk of his own. That's not a bad idea. The room is big enough to hold it. I'll ask the omegas tomorrow to get one for him. "You still remember how to play basketball?" he asked me. "Yes and I remembered that I beat you every time," I said and we laughed as we headed toward the door. "Yeah well, it's been 3 years and I've been practicing. Let's see what you got," he said before he opened the door and exited my office.
Hey everyone! So Jacob is starting to realize how much he feels about Ellie. Do you think she feels for him as deeply as he feels for her? Is that feel reciprocated?
