5 - Almost The Best

It seemed Gina tried to only address y/n but I could clearly hear it as well.

She? who was she?

It was rather confusing but I saw the instant change in y/ns body language, making it very clear that y/n knew exactly who was here.

We proceeded and soon I saw the person Gina was referring to;

Superintendent General Bin,

All of us greeted her in the formal way, as she was a lot of ranks up.

       'The anti-robbery squad.' Mrs Bin said in a stern voice. Gina stepped forwards

     'How can we help you Superintendent General Bin?' I hadn't seen Gina this formal before, like it was always clear she was our team leader by the way she talked and acted but it was never truly formal. This time she was, her voice steady and her posture upright.

    'You will have a test in half an hour so get yourself ready. You will start with the parkour and will end with the shooting range' Mrs Bin instructed and to me this was all pretty random. I mean she could basically just come in here and order us around.. well I guess that's the way it was

      'yes m'am' Gina let out

     'Team.. get yourself ready'

Me, y/n, Seojun and Dong-min started to move.

I honestly had no clue about what was expected now so I just followed y/ns lead. 

As indicated before we first ran the parkour, this wasn't too difficult for the team. In the academy this was my worst nightmare but since then I had put a lot of attention and effort in my physical ability and it seems it really paid off. Though Dong-min still finished first, me second, y/n was third and Seojun third.

Gina looked proudly at us, but Superintendent General Bin showed no emotion whatsoever.

We proceeded to the shooting range. y/n started. Her s first shot was perfectly in the middle. Thought Mrs Bin seemed unimpressed. The second one was a bit off but still better than most of ours. 

I could see that the way she held the gun suddenly got more tense. The final shot was more average, still not bad at all.

y/n closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

Eventually Seojun ended first, y/n second, me third and Dong-min last. It seemed our team was quite in a good balance. 

We were standing in a line as we waited for any form of feedback from Mrs Bin.

     'Your scores aren't too bad. Good to have Mr Lee excel at the parkour and Mr Kim in shooting. Mr Jeon as a new addition to the team you are not too bad either.' Her eyes then diverted to y/n.

      'Ms Lee, I thought you mentioned last time you will work harder, yet I can't see any of it' I gulped as I saw y/n tense up next to me.

      'I apologize M'am, though my scores did increase slightly'

      'and that seems good enough for you? Perhaps it would be better to have some time out of the team to focus on these skills which you are clearly lacking.'

Now I also tensed up, what the hell was this. Why was she attacking y/n this much? it literally made no sense at all. I had to really restrain myself from making any comments to defend her. 

     'Actually y/n was vital in catching the robbers' Gina pleaded. The woman scoffed 'from what I heard the rookie saved the day' while saying it she glanced at me.

    'but good that you stand up for your team Ms Park, even though they clearly don't deserve it'

y/n balled her hands into fists behind her back.

      'I will not disappoint you next time ma'am.' she eventually let out. 

Mrs Bin scoffed 'don't make promises you can't keep Ms Kim.'

and with that she walked away.

We all awkwardly stood in silence. Dong-min and Seojun were the first to leave 'we will pay for your drinks next time we have dinner y/n' they said apologetic, I guess their way to show support for what just passed. and apparently this happened every time.

I on the other hand was still super confused. 

y/n was about to walk away but I grabbed her wrist which made her stop in her tracks.

      'I don't understand.. your score was almost the best of the group?' I asked baffled.

      'yes that's the problem, almost.' y/n said while shaking her head and with that she eventually left.

I followed her figure with my eyes with a lot of pity actually. It was a pretty big public humiliation. I sensed that Gina came closer so I turned around

       'uhm Gina, why was Superintendent General Bin so... uhm severe on y/n?'

Gina gave me a sad smile 'oh you don't know? Superintendent General Bin is y/ns mother. She has always given y/n a hard time, even though she outperforms most of us.. It's never good enough.'

Why did y/n never mention this in the academy?
