Donghyuck dressed in a simple outfit of just black jeans, a black shirt, and sneakers. He did his hair just as he always did, trying to be as presentable as possible before joining Mark back in his small childhood bedroom. Mark was sat on his bed, elbows on his knees as he patiently waited.
"Do you need to tell your parents your leaving?" Mark asked, one of his eyebrows twitching upwards as he questioned, standing from the bed.
Donghyuck chuckled, "No, no. My parents are very busy, they won't notice anything." Mark picked up on a hint of sadness in the human's voice, but didn't look too deeply into it. There would be a time and a place to learn more about him and his life, and now wasn't the time.
Mark nodded, "Okay. Close your eyes." And just like that, the two were spawning to Hell, the temperature not bothering Donghyuck as much as it had the last few visits. It was still hot, but he was growing used to it.
Donghyuck opened his eyes up, guessing that they had fully spawned and was correct. They stood in a hall next to a portrait Donghyuck couldn't ever forget, it was one that had poked fun at when Jeno and Renjun had invited him and Jaemin the first time. It was just down the hall from their bedroom, Donghyuck was sure he could tell which door was their own from their place in the hall. He clenched and unclenched his jaw, the weight of the situation beginning to set in.
Mark touched Donghyuck's shoulder, shocking the human that he would do such a thing, "I'm going to call for Jeno to meet me in the library, so you'll have time alone with Renjun." Mark's crystal blue eyes sparkled in the candle lit hall, putting Donghyuck into a trance for a moment.
Nonetheless, he nodded, looking down at the blood red carpet beneath his feet to distract himself, "Its going to be fine. What can he say? The universe doesn't lie." His words were soft, and reassuring to Donghyuck, but yet he still felt the nerves building more and more.
He didn't say anything, instead letting Mark continue, "I'll be heading to the library. Stay right here until you see Jeno leave the room and then head in." Donghyuck nodded, shaking his hands at the wrist as if to prepare him. The plan was simple, and they both knew it would be executed flawlessly.
And just a moment later, Mark's hand was gone from Donghyuck's shoulder as he walked down the hall, past the bedroom door, and towards the library and out of sight. Donghyuck tried to focus on his breathing, he could hear his own heartbeat in his ears. He wasn't sure what he was so scared of, there hadn't been a time where Renjun reacted badly to things, he was open and welcoming to discuss any of Donghyuck's deepest thoughts, so what's so different now?
The difference was that his soulmate would be Mark. The difference was that the traumatic death Renjun chose could be Donghyuck's life as well. Renjun couldn't forgive himself for his death, how would he feel about his best friend following the same path?
The door opening broke Donghyuck from his thoughts, quickly pushing his back against the wall, peering around the corner to see the bedroom door, and Jeno stood at it. He shut the door with a wide, happy smile on his face. He shouted something back into the room as he laughed, before following in the direction Mark had just gone. It was now or never.
Donghyuck watched the demon walk down the hall and out of sight, before he came out of his hiding spot and took the few steps to the door he knew his best friend was just behind.
He took a few deep breaths, before raising his fist to the door and knocking two times. His heart felt like it could stop beating any moment, loudly blaring in his ears but he tried his hardest to ignore this and focus on the footsteps on the other side of the door.
And just like that, Donghyuck was stood face to face with Renjun, his best friend shocked to see him in the Underworld so suddenly.
"Donghyuck?" His eyes were wide, the whites of his eyes showing more so than normal. He quickly grabbed Donghyuck's hand, dragging him into the familiar room.
