"I'm going to go make a cake." I said simply, pointing to the door before making my way over to it.
"Wait, wait. I'm coming with you." Taeyong smiled as he flipped through a few pages quickly. I smiled, knowing he was rushing to finish the last of his work before joining me.
"You can meet me at the kitchen when you're done, don't rush." I giggled, my hand landing on the knob, his eyes snapping up immediately.
He stared back at me, a smile slowly growing on his face, "Wait." And I did. I could tell he truly wanted to walk together to the kitchen, so I waited. I watched the way his face changed as he focused on his writing. He was just so handsome.
As he wrote, I couldn't help but to think about what could've been, had I not taken my own life. What if I would've never left, and never met Taeyong? Would things have been different, or would we have always met, one way or another? I knew there was no real answer to this, but I still pondered the possibilities. I also thought about how lucky I was to score him as my soulmate, and wondered what my life could've been like back on Earth as I would've searched and joined the dating scene to find my match. I was sure I wouldn't be able to find someone as amazing on Earth, I knew that much.
I didn't often think about my living life much, there was a reason I left it. There wasn't much to happily remember, or even daydream about. Sure, I could wonder who I would've ended up loving on Earth, but still my soulmate sat before me majority of the time. It was a waste of time, most of the time.
Taeyong sighed as he stood from the chair, "Okay, let's go make some cakes." He took my hand as we left the study promptly. We strolled through the palace together, hand in hand. Taeyong's grip never loosened, his hold firm. I loved the way he passionately did the simplest things, like everything he did had to be done perfectly. Even just a simple hand hold was done correctly; His firm grip never let up, his thumb caressed my hand, and his fingers never loosened from holding my own.
We didn't talk as we walked through the candle lit halls, and didn't rush to get to the kitchen. We walked slowly, and together.
Once in the kitchen, I quickly got to work, humming as I enjoyed the process of collecting the ingredients. Taeyong watched from the side like he always did, his eyes following my every move, but it didn't make me feel uncomfortable anymore like it once did.
"Jaehyun, can I ask you something?" Taeyong finally spoke after watching me closely. I nodded as I read a recipe off of a small card, before collecting the last few things I needed. I had been experimenting with food, as I rarely cooked without a recipe on Earth, so I had to relearn. The process of failure and fixing my mistakes was fun in a way.
He stopped me, his arm flying out like a clothing line, stopping me in my place. I looked up, shocked and confused at the random behavior, my mind still on my recipes and cake.
"What is it, Taeyong?" I ask, confusion clear on my expression as I wondered what he needed to ask me, that couldn't be asked while I collected the last few items. What could be so important?
His tongue darted out to wet his lips, before he spoke, "Due to the circumstances, I wasn't able to formally ask you to be mine." He paused, his eyes locking with mines, "I know you're mine, the universe has always known you'd be mine. But do you accept?"
The silence between us was heavy, ringing in my ears like a bell. His face was so serious, along with the nature of his words, I couldn't help but to feel overwhelmed. I took a deep breath, trying my best to blink away the heavy emotion filling my heart at a rapid pace.
