Chapter 67 | strike back

"Shut up..." Kujo said.

"You think we didn't loose our parents too? You chose this path, you took a child's parents from her. You're repeating the cycle of trauma. And for what? We all know you're not doing this for the planet like blue ship says they are. You're doing it for power, to feel a sense of control. You could have done great thinks Kujo, you did this to yourself"

"I SAID SHUT UP!" Kujo yelled, turning to him from maki to L.

But before she could shoot it, the plane suddenly tilted, causing everyone who wasn't seated to fall over. You and L fell into each other, Kujo fell and dropped the gun, and Maki fell out of her arms.

You could see through the open boarding door that the plane was turning, and heading right for the airport.

"ITS GONNA CRASH INTO THE AIRPORT!" You exclaimed at L, he gave you the bag of antidote shots and immediately scrambled up and ran up the isle to get into the captains cockpit.

He could fly a helicopter, surely he could stop a plane right. You grabbed the gun Kujo had dropped and tossed it out the open door so she couldn't harm anyone. Maki took the chance to scramble over to you and leapt into your arms in relief. You fumbled around in the bag for a shot.

"I'm sorry this might hurt but it'll stop the virus" you said.

She didn't protest and let you jab the needle into her arm and release the antidote into her. By now the symptoms had set in, so she's still be sick. But she wouldn't die, and she could heal from it now.

You looked around the plane, spotting an infected flight attendant watching from one of the seats. You rushed up to her and took out a needle.

"It's an antidote. I'll give you the shot then I need you to take the bag and start giving them to passengers. We're here to save the child and stop the spread. Trust me" you explained.

She seemed in shock from the whole situation, but complied, letting you inject her and took the bag from you to follow your instructions.

You turned to go back to maki but was stopped by the sudden screeching halt of the plane knocking everyone off their feet again and the sounds of the glass window of the airport breaking when the nose of the plane hit it. L had done it, he's stopped the plane. Looking down the isle into the cockpit you noticed both captains bleeding out on the floor, Kujo having shot them intending to fly the plane herself to get away before you jumped on. That plan of hers didn't exactly work out did it.

L stood in the doorway of the cockpit in relief, making eye contact with you. He smiled, glad he managed to stop the plane. You smiled back, proud of him.

The brief happy moment was cut short, by the sounds of Makis hysterical voice.

"YOU MONTER! YOU KILLED MY DAD AND THEN TRY TO KILL THE TWO WHO SAVED ME? I CANT BELIEVE I TRUSTED YOU. YOU MURDERER. YOU KIDNAPPER!" She screamed.

When you and L looked down at her, you were rather taken aback. She'd managed to get a pocket knife from someone who's dropped it when the plane halted and now had it held over Kujo who lay weakened from the virus on the floor. How the tables turned.

"YOU- YOU... I HATE YOU! YOU RUINED MY FAMILY! YOU- I..." Maki sobbed, in clear distress.

She was young, only 10... it wasn't a surprise she'd be angry. Anyone of any age would if their parent was murdered, but a 10 year old would take it harder due to their lack of life experience and undeveloped brain. But you never expected she'd be holding a knife to her dads murderer ready to stab.

"Maki... calm down" you said, slowly approaching her.

"Don't sink to her level, don't become what she is" L added.

Police and ambulance sirens could be heard approaching the plane, Kujo knew she'd been defeated the second she heard them. Her question now was will she die at the hands of a ten year old while weakened from a deadly virus before the police her to her.

"But... she ruined everything. My dad is gone... my life is gone... my everything... she- she took everything from me" Maki cried.

"She's going to rot in prison for the rest of her life. Don't follow in her footsteps. You're better than that Maki. We lost everything and look at us now, we overcame that" you said.

"You promised me you'd save people one day right?" L added.

Crumbling from the words said to her, she dropped the knife and stumbled over to you and L wrapping her arms around the two of you and crying like it was the end of the world into your shirts. You both wrapped her into a tight hug as police began to enter the plane and immediately headed to arrest Kujo.

The case was finally over, and Maki was safe again.

As soon as she'd recovered fully, and she'd been to her dads funeral, she'd be heading back to England to join a new family. Hopefully you, L, boy and the successors would be able to love her as much as her own mother and father did.
