Chapter 12: Fight or Flight

Start from the beginning

She smiles under her hood, knowing her answer will bring out another question, "the force."

"But...how?"

"Your eyes can deceive you, do not trust them."

She stopped to cover her eyes and exhaled, frustrated that she couldn't understand. Still determined, she looked up again to say, "Tech said the force is your religion?" she turned her head at Tech to get his attention who was already listening.

"Mmh did he, well I'm sure Tech says a lot of things. The force is in everything, it surrounds us, penetrates us and binds the galaxy together. Anyone can use the force, it doesn't belong to anything or a 'religion', it cannot be owned. Some people trust it and put their hope in it, others use it for the nature of good, some the opposite, and others are a bit in the middle and serve it rather than using it for their gain. It can be whatever you want, you can see it however you want. That's the mystery of it, no one can truly understand it."

She nodded, fascinated and satisfied she was finally getting an idea. Looking at her hands she wondered if she could use force if she tried.

"This is an original Venator-class ship," Rex turned to tell Omega who had caught up behind him, "first batch off the line."

"First off the line huh? Just like you Rex." Wrecker and Orla shared a laugh and she playfully pushed Rex by the arm.

"Old man," she cracked and Wrecker's laugh increased, taking his mind off the chip

"We're the same age," he grumbled.

"It's not quite the same," she responded, grinning from winding him up and he mumbled,

"It's the same."

They had to navigate up a plank bridge to get into the ship. Orla made no sign of effort when balancing across the thin piece of wood while the rest watched their stepped.

"How does she do that?" Wrecker whispered, who was crawling up the plank with his fear of heights holding him back.

"The force," Omega answered and Wrecker gasped.

Now that they were out of sight from scrappers, she folded down her hood and lit her lightsaber as a torch. Light covered the entire halls as they walked down. Hunter walked beside her with Omega, focusing on the design of her hilt. He was able to get a better look now that the blade wasn't by his neck. It was wildly different from the last Jed's lightsaber he had seen, Anakin Skywalkers. It was thinner, longer with more detail and colours. Words were embroidered in gold in various languages including Mando'a, what exactly they said he couldn't tell. They were very small and every word connected in a swirl across her saber. When the sun hit it glowed as bright as the kyber itself and in the dark, you could see the gold lettering along with the golden kyber beaming out of it like a long staff. It felt hypnotizing and he struggled to take his eyes off it. But thinking of Anakin Skywalker he thought to ask,

"You know Anakin Skywalker right?"

Surprised, she nodded and said, "we weren't exactly friends but sure, I knew him. He worked with Rex, right? And you served under him once right? When you saved Echo?"

"You've been doing your research as well I see," he beamed, happy to hear he must not have been completely crazy to look so deeply into her file. She had to. "Are they close?"

"Well I guess, they served with each other for the entire war so you could say that."

"No, I mean close...close."

"Oh, you mean..." her walking speed slowed to greater a bigger gap between him and the rest of the group, "well, I mean it wouldn't surprise me, but Anakin is already dating someone if not probably married by now."
