Although I did really like Fred's idea, I had to agree with Hermione with this one. I took Fred's and and interlocked it with mine. A smile grew on his face and his cheeks went slightly red.
"The Defence Association?" said Cho. "The DA for short, so nobody knows what we're talking about?"
"Yeah, the DA's good," said Ginny.
"Only let's make it stand for Dumbledore's Army, because that's the Ministry's worst fear, isn't it?" I suggested to the group.
There was a good deal of appreciative murmuring and laughter at this.
"All in favour of the DA?" said Hermione bossily, kneeling up on her cushion to count nearly all of us raised our hand in the air. "That's a majority — motion passed!"
She pinned the piece of parchment with all of our signatures on it on to the wall and wrote across the top in large letters:
DUMBLEDORE'S ARMY
"Right," said Harry, when she had sat down again, "shall we get practising then? I was thinking, the first thing we should do is Expelliarmus, you know, the Disarming Charm. I know it's pretty basic but I've found it really useful"
"Oh, please," said Zacharias Smith, rolling his eyes and folding his arms. Me and Fred shot a horrible look at Zacharias before he continued. "I don't think Expelliarmus is exactly going to help us against You-Know-Who, do you?"
"I've used it against him," said Harry quietly. "It saved my life in June."
Smith opened his mouth stupidly but closed it when I threatened to hex him to the next century. The rest of the room was very quiet.
"But if you think it's beneath you, you can leave," Harry said sassily. I gave a smirk at Zacharias shocked face.
Smith did not move. But instead he huffed before letting Harry continue. Nor did anybody else leave but everyone's eyes were focused on Harry.
"OK," said Harry, "I reckon we should all divide into pairs and practise."
It must have felt very odd for Harry to be issuing instructions, but not nearly as odd as seeing them followed. Everybody got to their feet at once and divided up. Me and Fred Fred paired up and George and Lee paired. The whole room was in a pair and standing next to their other person. Predictably, Neville was left partnerless, I did feel bad for him.
"You can practise with me," Harry told him. "Right on the count of three, then one, two, three"
The whole room began shouting the disarming spell at their partner. Me and Fred shuffled our way to a corner to practice.
"Ladies first" he said to me.
I raised my wand to Fred's chest. Took a deep breath and muttered
"Expelliarmus." His wand flew out of his hand and down on the floor in front of my feet. Fred gave me a warm smile before giving his wand back.
We then practiced back and forth for a while. Each of our wands flew out of our hands. We soon stopped and me and Fred began to walk to George and Lee.
"I have a idea" Fred said as he pointed towards Zacharias Smith.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Just watch lovey"
Fred pointed his wand at Zacharias and muttered "Expelliarmus" under his breath. Zacharias' wand flew out of his hands and onto the floor in front of him.
He gave his partner, Anthony Goldstein a surprised look. "I didn't see you do that"
"I didn't do it" Anthony said raising his arms in the air.
