It might not have seemed like much, but it was so worth the wait.
"I can't believe it, either..." Mello says. "I didn't even expect these fireflies to be here."
"This is so sappy I feel like I'm gonna throw up," you teased.
"I warned you," Mello chuckled. "Just get out of the car before you throw up."
As you got out of the car, Mello sat down on the cloth, comically scooting over to the side and patting the empty space next to it.
Dork.
You took up the empty space next to him, all while still admiring the scenery. Your brain has yet to process what is happening around you. So many senses...but in a good way.
"Y'know what would make this better?" Mello slowly pulled his phone out of his pocket while making direct eye contact.
"Don't tell me you're gonna play your entire discography..."
"No, no, no, my stuff would ruin the vibe completely. Never thought I'd have to say that in my life, but yeah."
He proceeded to turn on some lofi music.
Hell yeah.
You both returned to gazing up at the sky, sitting in complete and comfortable silence. Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Mello pointing his finger up in the sky and moving it around to draw constellations.
Dork.
After a couple more minutes, Mello broke the silence.
"You ever think about how truly infinite the galaxy is?"
"What do you mean by 'truly' infinite?"
"Well, there are not only an infinite amount of stars, but an infinite amount of constellations you could draw with them...an infinite amount of alternate universes...an infinite amount of planets...an infinite amount of moons...an infinite amount of people...heck, if you think about it, there could be an infinite amount of alternate versions of us."
You tried to think of a way to counter his words...but you realized he was kind of right.
"Well, I...I hope those alternate versions of us are doing well..." you said.
"Not all of them, but some of them."
Silence for a couple more minutes. Soon enough, you both moved from a sitting to laying position, continuing to look at the sky in awe.
"You ever think about how some constellations don't actually look like what they are named to be?" Mello asks.
"I know right? Like, connect literally three dots and call it a bear I guess."
"Like, have they ever SEEN a bear?"
"Probably not!"
"Ugh, I remember having to study those constellations in science class..." Mello complains. "Like, most of them didn't even look like what they were named!"
"OH, THAT WAS PAIN!"
"How about this; we make a new constellation that ACTUALLY looks like what it is named?"
"YEAH, LET OUT OUR ANGER AT WHOEVER NAMED AND FORMED THEM ALL THOSE THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO!"
You both searched through the sky for a moment for a good constellation.
"...I have no clues," Mello said.
"But weren't you just drawing constellations earlier?"
"I was mostly drawing hearts and our initials..."
Dork.
"Hey, what about this? We make a constellation called The Bees!" you suggested.
"And what would that be?"
"You look up at the sky. Boom. You see The Bees. They are literally everywhere."
It took a moment for Mello to realize.
"Oooh...oh, I see you! I see you!"
You both flashed finger guns at each other.
You returned to gazing up at the stars...or should I say The Bees.
Hehe. Bees.

Honestly, you have no idea how long you were there. An hour? Two hours? Three?
Who even cares?
You're happy to be here however long it is.
Just you, him, the night sky, and the soft drum thumps, piano plinks, and guitar strumming from his phone.
You weren't aware of it, but the two of you were sort of clinging on to each other, locked in sort of a half-cuddle. You're close, but not too close. Still warm. Still comfortable.
You didn't even have to say it or hear him say it, but you were thinking it. And you could tell he was thinking the same thing, too.
I love you.
