The elevator came to a stop below the building and Fury led them out into a giant hangar bay, with three helicarriers inside.
"Yeah, I know. They're a little bit bigger than a .22 Magnum." He led them through the bay, coming up next to one of the carriers. "This is Project Insight. Three next generation helicarriers synced to a network of targeting satellites."
"Launched from the Lemurian Star," Steve assumed.
"Once we get them in the air they never need to come back down, continuous suborbital flight courtesy of our new repulsor engines."
"Stark?"
"Well, he had a few suggestions once he got an up close look at our old turbines, these new long range precision guns can eliminate a thousand hostile a minute, the satellites can read a terrorist's DNA before he steps outside his slider hole, we gonna neutralize a lot of threats before they even happen."
"Punishment comes after the crime," (Y/N) said. "Didn't you watch Minority Report?"
"Spoiler alert, he ends up committing the crime after all. After New York, I convinced the Word Security Council we needed a quantum surge in threat analysis. for once we're way ahead of the curve."
"By holding a gun at everyone on Earth and calling it protection," Steve said.
"You know, I read those SSR files. Greatest generation? You guys did some nasty stuff."
"Yeah, we compromised. sometimes in ways that made us not sleep so well. But we did it so the people could be free. This isn't freedom, this is fear."
"S.H.I.E.L.D takes the world as it is, not as we'd like it to be, it's getting damn near past time for you to get with that program, Cap."
"Don't hold your breath."

When Steve got home later that night, he heard music coming from another room. Cautiously, he grabbed his shield and approached the sound.
He found Fury sitting in the dark on his couch.
"I don't remember giving you a key."
"You really think I'd need one? My wife kicked me out."
"Didn't know you were married."
"A lot of things you don't know about me."
"I know, Nick, that's the problem."
Steve turned on the lamp next to his couch, but Fury turned them off. He pulled out his phone, writing something on his phone and showing it to Steve. Ears everywhere.
"I'm sorry to have to do this, but I had no place to crash." He wrote something else. S.H.I.E.L.D Compromised.
"Who else knows about your wife?"
Fury wrote another message. You, me, and Batman. He's behind you, but don't turn around. "Just... my friends."
"Is that what we are?"
"That's up to you."
Suddenly, Fury was shot three times from outside. He fell over, and Steve grabbed him, dragging him away from the window. He heard (Y/N) drop a smoke bomb before the caped crusader joined him and Fury in the other room.
Fury handed Steve the flash drive that Natasha had used on the Lemurian Star. "Don't trust anyone."
Fury passed out, and the sound of a door being broken down came from the other room.
"Captain Rogers?" It was a blonde woman, (Y/N) recognized her as one of Steve's neighbors. "Captain, I'm Agent 13 of S.H.I.E.L.D special service."
"Kate?"
"I'm assigned to protect you."
"On whose order?"
She noticed Fury lying on the ground. "His." She then radioed S.H.I.E.L.D. "Foxtrot is down, he's unresponsive. I need EMTs."
"Do you have a twenty on the shooter?"
(Y/N) and Steve noticed a man in the other building.
(Y/N) spoke into the radio. "We're in pursuit."
(Y/N) threw an explosive at the window, shattering it, before grappling into the other building. The mysterious shooter ran through the building, the Batman in hot pursuit. He chased the shooter up the stairs, all the way to the roof.
It was here he got his first good look at him. He had shoulder-length brown hair, and his eyes had black paint around them, similar to what (Y/N) did when he put on the cowl. He wore a mask, so (Y/N) couldn't see who it was.
He hurled a batarang at the assassin, which was deflected by his silvery left arm.
Steve's shield came flying at the assassin a moment later. He stopped it with his bare, silver metal left arm, looking back before throwing it at Steve and jumping off the rooftop.
(Y/N) looked over the edge of the roof. The man was gone.
