"I ca-" You tried.

"And they wouldn't-" Another Elder interjected but was silenced soon after.

"Quiet," Technoblade ordered, making the Elders swing their heads towards the hybrid.

With that, Technoblade nodded his head toward you. You took a second to compose your nerves before standing up and speaking.

"I see where all of you are coming from. I know people from the overworld have hurt all of you. We have kidnapped, murdered, and done other terrible things. It's understandable not to trust me and if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't trust me either."

You were going a bit off-script but you thought it was important to acknowledge how they were deciding things. While their ideas might come off malicious or mean, it was really coming from a place filled with fear and resentment.

"While I understand why you wouldn't want to, I ask that you listen to me. You may question me or criticize me after but I want to be able to explain everything first."

You paused for any objections. Luckily, there was none. A few looked interested in what you were going to say, perched forward in their chits with an intense gaze. The others looked either bored or uneasy.

After a moment of silence, you continued.

"My family was very close to the Greshams so it's a given that I know a lot about them. I've grown up with them and served them since I was a child. They were the only people I knew besides my parents. But that doesn't mean we think the same way.

"My parents taught me about the Nether from a young age. They introduced me to the idea of other people who lived outside of our world and taught me to respect and acknowledge them.

"I was never informed about the cruel things that people were doing to all of you. It was all just considered another rumor in the mansion.

"When I first met Tyche, I was assigned to take care of her. I spent all of my time with her, whether it was eating or simply reading. I grew very close to her in the few weeks she was there, enough that she told me about how she was kidnapped from the Nether.

"At first I didn't know what to do. But when I was preparing to meet with the Greshams about an upcoming party, I overheard their plans on what they wanted to do with Tyche."

Your eyes shot towards Technoblade for a second. You hesitated and chewed your tongue. He wasn't going to like what you would say next. Sure, you may have already said it but hearing it again doesn't make it any less shocking.

"They wanted to sell her," Your voice faltered, not even wanting to admit the reality of the situation. Although you've talked about it briefly with Phil, it still didn't feel real.

You were too afraid to look at the Elders' eyes so you carried on, eyes skimming over the top of their heads.

"I, of course, didn't want that. It made me sick to my stomach. Tyche is the one person I grew to care about as much as my parents. And I thought it was so selfish of me to keep her from her family, from her life back at home. At this point, I didn't have a home anymore, there was nowhere I truly belonged. But I knew I cared for Tyche more than anything and getting her back home to enjoy her life and avoid the cruel reality of the overworld meant the world to me. And even if I couldn't do that, I would die trying.

"So, I headed off with Tyche and escaped from the Greshams, eventually running into Philza who was gracious enough to help Tyche and I get here."

"If you were to stay here, how would that benefit us?"

"Well, reasonably speaking, since I'm one of the closest people to the Greshams that you can get, I'm able to provide a lot of details about them. I'm willing to share any information that would help defend the Nether.

"So, let's say you were to get rid of me by sending me back to the overworld. I would be executed immediately for my crimes and the Greshams would still proceed to start a war with the Nether.

"However, if I were to stay, I could give useful insight on the Greshams that would help with the inevitable war. Plus, if I were to be here then a lot of their army would be focused on finding and killing me instead of killing all of you.

"In the end, it's really a question on whether you want useful information on the Greshams to win the war or not."

"How do we know you're not giving the overworld information about us?"

"I've been closely watched ever since I arrived here. I don't have any special ability or way of communication except by hand and by mouth. If I were to be communicating with someone from the outside then you all would have known already."

The room was silent, everyone processing what was just said. No one else popped in with questions so you sat back down into your seat, biting the corner of your mouth to prevent yourself from smiling. You couldn't congratulate yourself yet but you were sure you argued your case pretty darn well.

With no one contributing anything else to the table, Technoblade asked, "Any objections to (Y/n) staying in the Nether?"

Only one person raised their hand.

Technoblade ignored it. "Then it is decided. (Y/n) will be staying here and providing information about the Greshams at our meetings."

The hybrid then rose from his seat, sending you a look that made you spring from your chair and follow him out the door. Once you left the room, an overwhelming sense of relief swept through your body. You were able to live another day. You weren't going to have to fight for your life in the overworld. You weren't going to leave Tyche without a goodbye or a good explanation.

At the same time, the nerves that settled in the pit of your stomach never disappeared. The looming war still remained. It wasn't going to be an easy battle, even with as much inside information as you knew about the Greshams. They would be looking for you, a criminal that ratted out their schemes to the enemy. And if you were caught, your death would probably be worse than if you were exiled now.

As the two of you were walking down the long fortress hallway, Technoblade looked over at you, scanning over your features. He could tell you were in deep thought. There was a wrinkle forming between your brows and your mouth was shaped into a slight pout. While you just talked your way out of death, Technoblade could tell there was something more you were thinking about. He wasn't going to ask about it, though.

"You did well," He simply complimented, watching as you tilted your head toward him. Your eyes widened a little, as if you were surprised at him saying that.

"Oh- uh, thank you," You stammered, presenting an awkward smile, "But it wouldn't have worked if it weren't for you. You gave me some really good talking points."

"I'd love to take all the credit," Technoblade joked with a lopsided smile, "But I wasn't the one who had to argue it."

You averted your gaze back to the brick floor, sinking back into your thoughts. You should give yourself more credit. Sure, Technoblade did come up with a few of the argument points in your speech but you were the one who put it all together and presented it in a way that convinced the Elders to keep you here in exchange for information.

Technoblade once again looked at you, noticing that your worried expression was replaced with a small smile. The hybrid quickly averted his eyes after realizing how long he had been looking at you. He wasn't one to deal with emotions very well so it surprised him how easy it was to cheer you up...

At least that's what he told himself.

Sorry for the long wait! I had 4 exams in the past two weeks so that's why I wasn't updating.

Hope you all liked the chapter. I rewrote several different parts multiple times because I felt like I could never get it right. I still don't think it's perfect but I don't want to dwell on it.

Anyways, I hope you all have a great day/night <3
