[Name] picked at her fingernails for the given timeframe in an attempt to entertain herself. She also bit the insides of her cheeks before a loud bang erupted from the other side of the door. She jumped with a gasp, scurrying to stand up, widening her eyes at the door. "What the hell?!" she scolded.
The door clicked, cracking open and she glared at it before the guard stepped inside. She harshly stared at him, scrutizing his form and she folded her arms across her chest. "You're going to tell me the reason you saved me, right?"
"I respect you," he blatantly stated. Surprise etched on [Name]'s face at the sudden confession. "That's the reason."
She tilted her head to the side in a confused manner before she deadpanned at nothing. "So, you're just petty? You didn't want me to die because you wanted me to know you do, somewhat, respect women?"
Go off, I guess.
The stillness from him that ensued after her comment made a faint smile appear on her slightly chapped lips. He passed her simply because he wanted to prove a point to her? In a way, that's super sweet, aside from the pettiness of it. He could have killed her, but he let her live.
The shock of it all took a while to wear off, before it finally dawned on her that she survived it. She was meant to die, but she lived. Albeit, at the cost of another's life, but she lived, and she was so thankful for it.
"Why do you respect me? You had a job to kill me," she asked, looking up at his mask.
He, himself, seemed quite taken aback by the question, as if he had no valid reasoning behind it, as if it was just now dawning upon his that he could get murdered for this action. He stayed silent, pondering over the query. [Name] beamed, taking a hesitant step forward before latching her arms around his neck and pulling him for a hug.
"You know what? I don't care. Just.. thank you," she embraced him tightly, her attempts to stop herself from crying in vain as she felt her face become damp. "Thank you, thank you, thank you so much."
She felt him uncertainly wrap his arms around her, gently enclosing the gap between them and a small, warm feeling bubbles in her chest.
He brought her back to the bedding area and she scans the room of winners who mingled amongst themselves. [Name] scanned the room and breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that all members of her team had survived, including number 001. She gave one last glance to the guard as he walked back to his post before walking up to her group.
Ali instantly caught sight of her and grinned widely. "You're alive!" he beamed brightly, making her smile softly. "I'm so glad you've survived, when you didn't come back, I was really worried that they had killed you."
[Name] noticed Sang-woo staring at her before directing her attention back towards Ali. "Me too," she said, "and I just had to use the restroom. That's all."
Ali nodded in understanding, turning his gaze back to Gi-hun, who also acknowledged [Name]'s survival with an upbeat attitude. "Our whole team made it," he stated enthusiastically. "That's amazing."
"I'm sorry," Sang-woo spoke up. "I shouldn't have suggested that we all split up."
[Name] pursed her lips, glancing at him with an unreadable expression. She hummed with a small nod before looking over at Gi-hun. "Don't say that," he reassured his friend. "It's not like you knew. Besides, [Name] and I chose the umbrellas on our own will," he placed a hand on Sang-woo's shoulder. "It's okay."
[Name] looked down at her feet, refraining herself from opening her mouth and saying anything, despite how badly she wanted to. The guilty look that Sang-woo had given Gi-hun was obvious he knew something and held back. As they say,
