After a brief conversation about their next move, (Y/N) and the others were able to find Jasper Sitwell, whom they knew was HYDRA.
Steve, flanked by Natasha and (Y/N), this time with his suit, started asking the questions.
"Tell me about Zola's algorithm," Steve ordered.
"Never heard of it," The HYDRA agent responded.
"What were you doing on board the Lemurian Star?"
"I was throwing up. I got seasick."
Steve walked forward, forcing Sitwell to the edge of the roof.
"Is this little display meant to insinuate that you're gonna throw me off the
roof?" He asked. "Because it's really not your style, Rogers."
"You're right," Steve said, backing away. "It's not. It's his."
(Y/N) walked forward. "Ever been bungee jumping, Agent?"
Sitwell gave him a confused look before (Y/N) pushed him off the ledge. He pulled out his grapple gun and aimed, but Sam grabbed him, flying back up to the roof with a jetpack he used during his time in the military.
(Y/N) grabbed Sitwell and pulled him to his feet.
"Zola's algorithm is a program..." Sitwell began, "For choosing Insight's targets?"
"WHAT TARGETS?"
"You! A TV anchor in Cairo, the Undersecretary of Defense, a high school
valedictorian in Iowa city. Bruce Banner, Stephen Strange, Harvey Dent, anyone who's a threat to HYDRA! Now, or in the future."
Steve spoke up next. "The future? How could it know?"
"How could it not? The 21st century is a digital book. Zola taught HYDRA how to
read it. Your bank records, medical histories, voting patterns, e-mails, phone calls, your damn SAT scores. Zola's algorithm evaluates people's past to predict their future."
"And what then?" Steve asked.
"Oh, my God. Pierce is gonna kill me."
"WHAT THEN??" (Y/N) shouted, shaking Sitwell by the collar.
"Then the Insight Helicarriers scratch people off the list. A few million at a time."
---
Sam was driving (Y/N), Steve, Nat, and Sitwell to the Triskelion in (Y/N)'s car.
"HYDRA doesn't like leaks," Sitwell said.
"So why don't you try sticking a cork in it," Sam recommended.
"Insight's launching in sixteen hours, we're cutting it a little bit close here," Nat informed.
"I know," Steve said. "We'll use him to bypass the DNA scans and access the Helicarriers
directly."
"What?!" Sitwell said, surprised. "Are you crazy?"
"I've had worse ideas," (Y/N) said. He was in the backseat with his suit on, as the windows in the back were tinted.
Suddenly, someone landed on top of the car and grabbed Sitwell, throwing him into the oncoming traffic. It didn't take any more for (Y/N) to know this was the same man who killed Fury. The Winter Soldier.
Steve yanked the brake handle, causing the Winter Soldier to drop onto the street. Unfortunately, another car rammed into (Y/N)'s from behind, pushing them forward. The Winter Soldier had recovered by now, and jumped back onto the car, pulling the steering wheel out from where Sam was holding onto it.
"What the hell!" (Y/N) shouted, as it was in fact his car.
Steve broke the door off, pulling Sam and Natasha with him. (Y/N) fired his grappling hook after them, hitting another car and pulling himself out of the vehicle with ease.
By now, the Winter Soldier's backup had arrived. Numerous HYDRA agents swarmed the freeway, shooting and forcing the team to split up. Natasha shot back, hitting the Winter Soldier's goggles but not doing much else.
"Naidite ostalnykh (Find the others)," The Winter Soldier ordered. "Ya pozabotlyus au letuchey myshi. (I'll take care of the bat.)"
The HYDRA agents split up to find their targets. (Y/N) had heard the Winter Soldier's order, and while he didn't understand Russian, he knew that whatever he said couldn't have been good.
When the Winter Soldier was isolated, (Y/N) leapt at him, his cloak flowing as he jumped at his target. The Winter Soldier fired a few rounds, but quickly discovered that the suit was bulletproof.
The Winter Soldier dropped his rifle, instantly switching his style in order to fight hand-to-hand with Batman. He swung his metal arm at his head, a blow which (Y/N) dodged. He did not, however, dodge the hook that came for his abdomen. He whirled around and smacked the Winter Soldier with one of his gauntlets, causing the assassin to stumble backwards a bit. He then threw an explosive, which the Winter Soldier deflected. Unfortunately, in that time, (Y/N) had used a smoke grenade and disappeared from his sight.
He reappeared behind the Winter Soldier, grabbing him by the neck and pulling him to the ground. (Y/N) quickly stood, but so did the Winter Soldier. This time, he was too slow to dodge a blow from his metal arm, which struck him straight across the face, causing him to fall backwards.
"And I thought members of the League of Shadows were strong," The Winter Soldier said in a low voice. And then he raised his arm to strike a blow which would surely shatter (Y/N)'s cowl.
However, when the blow came, it was not to (Y/N)'s face, but to Steve's shield.
Steve kicked the Winter Soldier away before blocking fire from his various array of weapons, before the two closed the distance on each other and began to throw punches. (Y/N) was still down because of the attack, but he saw most of the fight.
Including the moment when Steve threw the Winter Soldier away, and his mask came off.
It revealed a man with a short beard and long, brown hair, around the same age as Steve looked. Steve just stared at the man, and it didn't take long for (Y/N) to realize that he knew him.
"Bucky?" Steve asked.
"Who the hell is Bucky?" The Winter Soldier replied.
As 'Bucky' raised his gun, Sam came flying out of nowhere on his wings and kicked him aside.
(Y/N) began to slip out of consciousness.. "I've got to get me some of those."
After a beat, they heard sirens coming from nearby. A moment later, a pack of HYDRA agents surrounded them, led by Rumlow.
