"No." I said. I dodged the punch and flung her away using my capture weapon. "Why do you think I'm here waiting for you?"
She gave an unamused hum as she straightened herself. She looked down to the pile of her throwing knives. "You emptied all my damn knives."
"What did you expect?" I narrowed my eyes.
"I don't know." She rolled her eyes. "Maybe for you to be a little less of a nuisance."
Her gaze snapped back and she ran at me, dashing over and grabbing one of her throwing knives from the ground as she went.
As soon as she got near me, I tossed an end of my capture weapon at her and it wrapped around her arm. I pulled her closer, winding my fist back.
She ducked down and avoided my punch, slicing my scarf off her with her knife. She tried to swipe her leg along the ground to trip me, but I wouldn't allow it. I jumped to the side.
With a audible huff of what could be nothing other than annoyance, Puppet leapt back and away, pulling the loose shreds of fabric off her arm.
Her eyes shifted around for a moment before landing back on me.
"Where's the brat?" She asked cooly.
Of course she would be looking for Shinso.
"Nowhere you'll find him."
She slowly stepped sideways and circled around me, unknowingly shifting towards where Shinso was hiding.
'Not that way.'
I needed to keep her away from him. I quickly threw my capture weapon at her.
I guess she was ready for it this time. She snatched the fabric from the air and clung onto it. She yanked on my scarf, forcing me to take a step forward and closing the distance between us.
I dug my feet into the ground and also yanked on my capture weapon — much harder than she did. I forced her forward, and she was sent flying towards me.
I wound my leg back and prepared a kick.
She planted her feet into the ground and got low. She used my harsh tug along with my scarf to slide along the ground and avoid my hit.
Using the momentum from the swing, she swung around to behind me.
I turned to keep the soul in a fight with me, but only watched as it launched at Puppet's still figure sitting against the tree and tackled her to the ground.
'NO!'
I don't think that in my entire career I had ever activated my quirk as fast as I did now on Puppet.
Puppet shifted, the soul quickly cutting through the piece of my capture weapon around her hands using the throwing knife.
"Valiant effort." She mumbled, slowly rising to her feet. She grabbed the knife then pushed the soul away.
"Shinso, RUN!!" I yelled. His sly trick would never work on Puppet twice, so now he was no more than a liability. He needed to get out of here, otherwise he would be killed.
Shinso quickly bolted from his spot behind the tree and ran, but he caught Puppet's attention.
Before she could react to chase him, I caught her arm with my scarf, forcing her to turn her attention to me.
"Your fight's with me," I snarled, "leave him."
Her chilling glare tore through me. "Fine."
She cut my scarf and ran at me again. She tossed her throwing knife from one hand to the other and slashed at me. I avoided the hit, but I was pushed back.
She used the opportunity to grab more of her throwing knives from the ground before rushing at me once more. This time, right before she got within arms reach of me, I watched her wind back her arm with a few throwing knives in hand.
I quickly pivoted as the threw them, dodging them, but only barely.
With my focus having been on her knives, Puppet took a slice at me with a third knife. I quickly parried and slapped her arm to the side, whirling around her and elbowing her in the back.
She spun back around and swung her knife again. This one I was too slow to avoid. I winced when the knife cut through one of my arms as I did my best to block the hit.
I needed an opening of some sort, something to capitalize on to catch her off-guard. I needed to do it soon; my eyes were already beginning to burn.
She followed-up her slash with a harsh knee to the stomach that made me teeter back a few feet. There was a tree I could brace myself on.
I don't know why, but Puppet gave me a small break and stood looking at me. Regardless of wether it was her toying with me, or giving herself a break, I took the brief moment to catch my breath.
"You know, you're really getting on every last one of my nerves," she said.
"Yeah?" I puffed.
"I'm done." She snarled with a glare.
I glared right back at her. "Well, so am I."
This was going to end today.
