You're right... I replied and let Daisy go back into her corner and watch in silence.
I'm aware that I need to tell them about my true history and lineage, and how it all falls on Olivia now, but when will it be the right time to tell them? I mean, is there even a 'right time' to tell your pups that their entire lives have been a lie and that they've secretly been in hiding without knowing it? Or that they have special powers because their wolves are a mixed breed of two very rare and powerful werewolves? How do you blow someone's life up like that? I'm not sure that I can stomach causing so much pain to my babies.
Also, let's not forget the risks here, too! Those mutts that infiltrated the pack two years ago could have gotten any amount of information before the warrior Mali and Conner sent to watch over Liv at the cabin took them down. The Sanction could know anything about the pack. And we won't know what they know until we get that piece of shit in the dungeons to speak.
And say what you will, but after two years of not saying anything, despite all of our heinous efforts, we're close to giving up on Cedric's lack of cooperation. Sooner or later we'll have to get rid of him, but then we'll have no more leads left to figure out what Nova knows, who helped these wolves get onto the pack lands, or if we have a traitor amongst us feeding the Sanction info. We're at a crossroads right now.
And to worsen the odds, Sage is also in danger. The prophecy of the Ocean and Sun is definitely about him. I mean, look at his eyes. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. If Nova finds out about any of this and gets her hands on Sage or Olivia...we're all as good as dead, and the Unity will be in the hands of a monster.
The feeling of soft tingles vibrating through the fabric of my dress on my waist broke me out of my mental haze. It was Broady. He wrapped his arm around my waist and gave me a gentle squeeze. My mate kissed my temple, relieving my body of its tense stature; "Are you alright, my flower?" He mumbled against my skin.
I sighed and leaned into his embrace. "I am..." I trailed off.
Broady squeezed me tighter and pulled his lips away from my head to look down at me, "But?"
I huffed and turned towards my husband. "But, if she's getting her powers, then it means-"
"It means that we need to tell them the truth, Dil," Broady said, cutting me off. "We've kept it hidden for long enough. They need to know where you come from. They need to know about their heritage. Well...from your side, at least, they know everything that I know about my family...well, except for the shadow gene, but that's just because of the spell," he said, giving me a snooty look that spoke volumes.
I rolled my eyes at him and looked over at Ky and Livy. They looked so clueless, laughing along with Trevor and the rest of the boys. My heart constricted looking at my pups. I would hate to be the one to ruin such peace and good times.
"Can't we just let them enjoy this a bit longer? Let's not make the boys' first few weeks a shit load of drama from our past."
"Daffodil, our past affects them now, more than it affects us. We can't keep this hidden from them any longer. We need to tell them, and soon."
"I know, but how can you tell your pups that their lives are in danger because they're secretly a prince and a princess? And then tell them there's someone after the next heir of the tribal throne, which just so happens to be Olivia. Oh, and also the fact that they have secret powers that they won't be able to use until both of them have turned eighteen and have shifted into their wolf. Which is also when their wolves' fur will develop a very distinctive tribal print that is unique to their abilities. A print that tells everyone that they're wolves of a tribe that we covered up, so everyone would believe that they were extinct! How do I tell them that?!" I whisper-yelled at my mate.
