"Hey FRIDAY," you shout while flipping away from the blades being fired at you.
"Why doesn't Stark just, you know, kaboom the place?" you ask, genuinely curious. It seems like the easiest solution.
"Y/N, there are civilians there. They believe to be working for a government organisation, and there must be no casualties of innocent bystanders. That is why each pair has been chosen."
"Yeah, but why'd you pair me with Loki. We aren't exactly a dynamic duo," you question while continuing to fight off the bots.
"The person you co-operated the best with during the fight was chosen as your partner. You and Loki displayed impeccable teamwork when under the pressure of the battle," the AI answers. You did didn't you, damn it.
"I wouldn't say that we're necessarily efficient on missions though, I imagine you would remember what happened on the last one we went on together," you remind FRIDAY of you literally kicking Loki off the undercover operation.
"That was over a personal matter. The actual mission was a success. You may not get along personality wise, but you do instinctually."
"There's no getting out of this one is there?"
"I believe there to be no other apt solution."
"Alright, thanks FRIDAY," you reply, and up the difficulty on the training settings, deciding to concentrate more now. Damn these things move fast.
The bots eventually run out of ammo, and you walk back out of the fight simulator into the main training room. You notice Loki finishing a spar with Thor, and thanks to your heightened senses, can hear the conversation.
"But I don't get why we would be paired together, we clearly don't get along," your hear Loki say, and make your way over to the pair.
"Fate works in mysterious ways brother," Thor says, putting his sword back on the weapons rack.
"Yeah, no. According to FRIDAY, we work well together. Although, I personally enjoy fighting against you more than with you."
"If that's your way of suggesting a spar, I would be more than willing to humble you."
"I have a feeling I won't be the one getting humbled," you pick a sword from the rack.
"I'm going to go, I would rather not be a witness to either of your murders," Thor bellows while leaving the training room.
"If I may interject, I recommend the two of you fighting together against two other team members. I do enjoy proving a point," the AI suddenly suggests.
Maybe that would be a better idea than just clawing his eyes out.
"Alright then, can you notify any two of them to come down here. I might actually get a decent opponent now," you request, and return your blade back to the rack. You walk over to your water and take a sip, this should be fun. You take off your sweater, now in your sports bra and leggings. You also decide to take off your shoes, your centre of gravity is better with them off.
"You can look, but you can't touch," you say mockingly. Even though you're facing away from him, you can tell he's staring at you.
"I wouldn't even consider it if you were the last woman on this planet."
"Somehow I doubt that's true, oh good," you spot Nat and Steve walking in. FRIDAY really chose a good pair for you two. Other than the twins, they're probably the most in sync fighters in the house.
"I heard you wanted some practise," Steve says while coming up to the mat.
"Yeah, pity she sent you two though. I was looking forward to an actually entertaining fight," you joke sarcastically.
