When he walks into the talon that afternoon, Lex is just trying to grab a cup of coffee, maybe chat with Clark and then get back to his home. He knows since the agreement you both came to, that being around you would be a bit more tense. He hated that he managed to destroy that friendship before it could fully form.
Somehow it feels like that's all he's truly capable of. The second his eyes catch you, he almost wants to rush over and tell you how he really feels. That he's an idiot, and he wants a second chance. That thought disappears when he sees the younger male sitting next to you. A classmate possibly. But he's smiling and so are you. The both of you look pretty comfortable. Your eyes catch Lex, and Clark takes notice smiling.
"Hey Lex."
He waves, and Lex walks over, completely forgetting the drink he'd come in for the first place.
"What are you all up to?" Lex tries to remain casual, and fights the need to look at you for too long. He doesn't want to give anything away.
"Just some high school stress." Chloe mumbles. There's a biology book in front of her.
"Who's your new friend?" You continue to smile.
"This is Jacob, he's helping me with my chemistry." You look up at Lex, and you can see the way his jaw is clenched as he looks at the teen sitting in the seat right next to you. Chloe and Clark exchange a look. The tension is clear. Jacob's hand is still resting in your knee, and Lex resists the urge to rip it off.
"Why are they sitting so close?" A part of him knows it's not his place to get angry. He was the one that decided that it wouldn't work out. But seeing you with someone else was aggravating. "I won't keep you from your work." Lex bids goodbye, and you frown slightly, deflating. You'd been so sure you'd get a reaction. But he barely looks even a bit affected. You no longer have the urge to be there. Was it that easy for his feelings for you to disappear?
"Hey, I think I'll turn in early. I'm feeling a bit under the weather. " They all nod, and from the disappointment on Jacob's face, you know he was hoping for a little more time. "I hope you feel better."
"Thanks." You collect your items, and make your way outside. Moving through the door, you sigh. This sucked.
"Leaving already, you looked pretty comfortable with Jacob." You turn at the voice, eyes narrowing.
Lex.
There's people walking in and out of the building, not to mention on the street, so this isn't the best time to unload your thoughts. Smallville was a pretty small town, you didn't want to be the new exclusive gossip. Being the bigger person, you just turn in the opposite direction, walking off as you clench your bag.
"(Y/N)." The way he calls out to you makes you want to cave. You pause, glancing at him, and gesturing your head to a more secluded area. He gets the message, following you down the street, moving behind a building where there's less eyes.
"Lex, what's your problem? I thought we agreed that this couldn't happen. I listened okay, I get it. I'm not some rich guy's daughter or politician's offspring."
"It isn't like that (Y/N)."
"It sure as hell feels that way."
He looks a bit defeated, and you're about to start an argument, you can feel it. You open your mouth to present your case, but Lex steps forward, kissing you. It startles you a bit, and the second he backs you into the wall, you moan. You're both pissed and happy. Happy that he's obviously no where close to being over the feelings he holds for you. Pissed that he's able to so easily turn you to mush. It's then that you realize that this can't happen. You don't want these half hearted feelings. Shoving him back, Lex stumbles. Before he can say anything, you slap him. Right across the face. You're angry, and he gets why.
"I'm not some toy you can play with whenever you feel like!!" He lifts his head, and it pains him to see the hurt and conflict on your face.
"I care about you Lex, I really do. But I know my worth, and I want someone who wants to be with me, no matter what the people around him think. This isn't some Romeo and Juliet play. I may be in high school but I'm a grown woman now. I'm not a little kid, and I know what I want. And this..this isn't it. " your fingers drift over your lip, and you force your eyes close as you make a turn, rushing off. Lex doesn't need anyone to tell him he screwed up. He knows he has.
