Is It Raining In Heaven? - Queen (platonic, angst)

Start from the beginning

The bassist didn't say much—just as he normally did, but even less this time. He teared up as well.

Roger didn't feel great, doing this without the late singer, but he knew this was what Brian wanted. What Freddie would've wanted, too. Keep making music.
-

"I really like the words, Bri. They're nice," the blond man said tenderly, looking up.

"Oh, um.. Thanks. I think they're right. Figured it was more of a Queen song, anyway.." Brian replied just as gently.

John seemed a little overwhelmed, so he set his instrument down and stood up. "I'm going outside for a bit."

"Okay, John. Come back when you're ready." Roger answered, though it wasn't a question.
-

Brian nodded, looking a bit sad. "He needs space, doesn't he? Don't we all? but it seems this is the hardest on John; I can't control his actions."

Roger looked the same way the guitarist did, he wondered how his fragile friend was feeling at the moment. That wasn't the drummer's business, though—drumming was his business.

"You think he's okay?" Roger questioned to Brian, a quizzical expression on his face.

"I'm not sure. It's up to him to tell us what he wants to."
-

Minutes later, John came back, not making eye contact with the band. They didn't feel like a complete band anymore. He was sure they never would.

"I'm ready," he meekly spoke, glancing up for just a moment before setting his vision on the bass.

Brian stood up and lifted his Red Special over his shoulders, settling it and strumming absent-mindedly. He was in his own world currently.

"Bri? Hello? Earth to Brian!" Roger said in a slightly annoyed tone, waving one hand rapidly in front of the fairly lost looking man.
-

Finally, Brian snapped out of his odd trance, quickly apologising several times.

"Guess I got lost in my train of thought there.. Sorry, Rog."

"No need to apologise more, it's all right. Do you need a break?" Roger asked with concern. He thought he'd be the one needing a break.

"Uh, no, no. I'm fine, really. Just got distracted, is all."
-

Roger hummed, seeing that Brian hadn't even taken the time to shave his stubble of a beard.

Again, Roger wondered. But this time, it was out loud, "if it's been six years, why's this so hard?"

Brian mimicked the humming, though not in a rude way. Just in a subconscious fashion.

"I wish I knew the answer to that. I think it's because we were friends for over twenty years."
-

John furrowed his facial expression, his lips sticking out in a pout as the two men talked. John kept many things to himself, this was no different. He wouldn't talk about Freddie. He couldn't.

"Ah, I'm, uh.. gonna be right back." John excused himself again, this time putting his hands over his face when he got outside. This was nearly impossible.

This made Brian worry more, concerned that recording this video was too much of a task for their younger friend.

John messed with his tie, kicking a little rock with his nice shoes. He wanted these feelings to go away.
-

Roger felt the opposite, however, rather melancholy and missing the lead singer who was gone now. He wished things were different. That he had longer time—Roger would give some of his years if it meant Freddie was still here, not causing them three forms of pain.

Only two years ago, Queen had finished a final album—Made In Heaven, which contained Freddie's last vocals, and the trio weren't sure at the time making that album was possible, either.

Because they had to listen to his voice.
-

And in January, they'd performed "The Show Must Go On" with Elton John. Brian had been trying to get Queen out of his system. The last time they'd all play live.

He hoped that "No-One But You" would help. It was slightly, but the feeling wasn't gone yet. Eventually, Brian was starting to accept that he'd never stop missing Freddie Mercury.

Roger started to feel that too, but he wasn't at that level of acceptance at the moment.
---

When they finally got most of the video done, Brian let out a sigh of relief. Now, the only part left was the ending. They all sat near each other, this scene was where Brian and Roger took turns reading the last lines.

John watched with a look of sadness and curiosity, he didn't say anything in the song itself.

The camera panned out and it soon ended, the youngest member of the band doing his best to not have a nervous breakdown. Luckily, he didn't, but he had a look on his face that read, 'I'm never doing this again.'
