16. The Twice Lived

"Whose ass I have to destroy?" She asked with a malicious grin. Alakshmi and her appetite for destruction was large. The goddess of misfortune, strife, and poverty wouldn't let an opportunity go to destroy a person completely. 

"Not for violence but something else. Inside the Gurukul, there is Alaknanda's body. You have to get me that body and replace it with another body that looks exactly like her."

Alakshmi gave him a doubtful look. "Are you taking drugs? If you are, I suggest you not to do so here. It is a punishable offense here. Also, which drugs are you taking? I hope you don't overdose because you're a bit useful to me. I don't want you to die. Or at least don't die right now. Though I find it a little difficult to decide if that want to ask you to stop taking drugs or ask you to share, I've never quite tried. But surely, I know the side-effects. It totally destroys humans. Its an easy way, you know. Don't have to do a lot of hard work on destroying them. Just a dash of a whiff and humans willingly fall into it."

"Nirriti, shut up. I'm not taking drugs. I will explain to you later. Just do what I'm saying."

"Fine but what is the plan? Where are going to find the body? Also, I can feel Vishnu's energy signal from this far. So, excuse me if I ask how are you going to have this done in his presence. "I think I can manage to trick some rakshasas to attack the place in the way. It will distract Vishnu enough to fight. Till then you have to do the change."

Alakshmi rolled her eyes at her brother whom she shared no blood with and muttered something about him being a party-pooper.

Alakshmi had gone to Patala and tricked them we the with the information that the way to defeat Vishnu is to attack him when he is at his lowest point. By the evening, they had prepared to take Alaknanda's body to Kashi. It was planned to be cremated in Kashi.

As crazy as Adya is, she wished for her ashes not to be immersed in Ganga. Ganga screamed at the idiocy. The silly girl had thought that immersing her ashes might cause a rift in the promise she made to Ganga not to pollute it further.

As they picked up the body on the wooden plank, the rakshasas attacked. When the chaos had taken a bit higher place. Shukra and Alakshmi got in between, disguised as rakshasas. They took off Alaknanda's body and replaced it with another body. They had readied the body bought from the morgue dressed exactly as Alaknanda's. He passed Alaknanda's body to Jayanti who hid it well among the leaves in the pit they dug for hiding purposes. Jayanti saw the body and quickly put a hand on her mouth to keep herself from crying. Such a beautiful girl Jayanti remembered her niece as. Full of life. Always something or the other. She wasn't the silent kind. But now the ringing silence was totally disturbing.
