"You see, this would work, but it takes like an hour for me to even pass out," you explain, as his hand tightens around your throat. Now just pissed off, you pull the spare knife you brought out of your garter and slice his neck. His body slumps to the floor, maybe you should've thought that through.
You lock the bathroom door and call Fury as you drag the body into a stall.
"You what?" he shouts down the phone.
"Well what was I meant to do?" you whisper down the line.
"Not kill someone at a huge event that's what."
"Sorry but I was getting sick of it, this is the third time these guys have tried to kill me."
"You're telling me this has happened before?" he questions.
"Not this exact situation, but I think someone has a bounty on my head," you explain.
"Under no circumstances leave that bathroom, not until I sort this out," he orders, and you look at your now bloodied dress in the mirror.
"Considering I look like Carrie, that won't be a problem," you reply, and wipe the blood off as best as you can with toilet paper. You wait for a few minutes, and hear a knocking on the door.
"If at all possible, could you hurry up," a woman says from outside the bathroom.
"Go pee somewhere else, I'm going to be a while," you shout back, and wait for Nick to arrive.
There's a light tapping on the window, and you open it, letting Fury in, along with a few other agents.
"Here's a new dress, if anyone asks, you just felt like an outfit change. I'll handle this," he commands, and you quickly get dressed into the long red dress in a different stall. When you come back out, Fury and the agents are gone, the room is spotless, and there's no sign that anything had happened. Damn they work fast.
You walk back over to the mirror making sure there was no more blood on you, and head out of the bathroom.
You navigate your way through the crowd of people, rushing back over to your seat and grabbing your phone.
"Going so soon?" the voice of a familiar prince asks from behind you.
"I've had my fun," you reply, slightly out of breath from rushing about.
"What have you been up to," he asks, his tone inquisitive.
"None of your business," you respond, and walk to the exit, deciding you would rather avoid having to kill another person tonight.
"Only making me more intrigued darling. And a different dress? The plot thickens," he teases, and you turn around.
"Piss off Loki," you snap at him, a confused and maddened expression now on his face. You call a cab, and head back to the tower. He doesn't have a reason to be annoyed at you, you've told him that you aren't friends. It's his fault if he doesn't understand that.
You pay the taxi driver, and make your way into the tower. You walk back to your room, locking the door behind you. You take off the red dress, hopping into the shower and wash off whatever remnants of blood still on you.
You slip on one of your nightdresses, and sit down at your desk. There's a message on your phone from Fury, saying the only mission you have for the time being is to find out who wants you dead. That was what you were planning on doing anyway, you open up your laptop and get to work.
You search for hours, unable to find anything.
"Damn it," you mumble to yourself and slam your laptop shut in frustration. You check the time, three am. Usually, you would go out and do something to distract yourself and take a break. Unfortunately for you, you're pretty much housebound for now.
You leave your room, deciding a change of environment might help, bringing your laptop with you. You sit down on the sofa in the living room on your floor, getting back to your research.
You hear Loki's door open, you don't have the time to deal with him right now.
"Care to explain what that was about earlier?" he asks vexedly, sitting down on the couch opposite you.
"I was ambushed in the bathroom, had to kill someone and now I'm trying to find out who wants me dead," you explain. You're getting nowhere with this. You close your laptop, it's better to leave it for tonight.
"My turn to ask a question, why did you want that date so badly?" you place the laptop on the coffee table in front of you.
"I owed you. I didn't take a genius to see Stark sprung that on you. I decided to save you the trouble of going on one," he clarifies.
"Why didn't you just tell me that in the first place," you scoff, and lean back in your seat.
"And miss out on seeing you squirm, come on I couldn't pass up on that," he taunts, and you roll your eyes.
"You had me worried there, Laufeyson," you stand up and walk over to the small unused kitchen for a glass of water.
"Would me wanting to take you out really be such a bad thing?" you hear him follow you in.
"You and I both know the answer to that question. I would probably have stabbed you before we got to dessert," you reply, filling up the glass at the tap. You feel the god now pressed up against you.
"And as for the other offer I made," he purrs into your ear, one of his hands wrapping around your neck lightly.
"Also off the table," you turn around and meet his gaze, not fully convinced of your own words.
"So if I did this," he grabs your thighs, hoisting you onto the counter behind you, "You still wouldn't be interested?" You trace his jawline with your finger, your other hand resting on his chest. He leans in, preparing to kiss your neck.
"Not one bit," your voice now a low whisper, Loki pulling away from you.
"Your loss darling," he walks back out of the kitchen, and you hop down off the counter, "Just know, the offer still stands," he comments, going back into his room.
You might be a good liar, but you know he could see the dilation of your pupils, and he definitely noticed your quickened heartbeat. You said it would never happen, you're starting to regret that promise.
You pick up your laptop, heading back into your room. You're not going to get any more work done tonight, that's for sure. You get into bed, falling asleep quickly.
