"Food?" he frowned, taking out the brown paper back with the sandwiches. "Scones, biscuits...fruit...yesterday's cheese sandwiches. A picnic blanket. Why the hell do you have a - Oh my God!"
"What?" Harriet blinked, unsure of what he was about to say.
"You're going on a picnic date with Bea. You're taking her on a date," he rushed out, his voice so high-pitched it sounded like he was squealing. "You're finally gonna ask her to be your girlfriend."
"What, no I'm not!" she denied, shaking her head violently.
"Oh come on, Harriet. There is no need to lie," Minho smiled.
The girl could feel her face heating up as her eyes flitted to the right, desperately wanting to avoid eye contact with Minho. "Maybe..." she mumbled, glancing down nervously. "Is it a good idea? We haven't exactly talked about us. So I don't really know how she's feeling about it. And is this date a good idea? I've been wanting to take her on a picnic date up in the mountains for ages, but I had to wait for her hip because I wanted it to get better. Of course, she would have done it but I was not letting her do that. Would she even want to do this as a date? You're her best friend. Would she like this sort of thing? Or should I have-"
"Woah! Slow down," Minho breathed out, placing both of this hands on her shoulder to steady her. "Calm down. Take a breath alright, because I don't even think you took one throughout that whole speech."
Harriet inhaled and exhaled deeply before flickering her eyes back up to Minho's.
"First of all," he began, "That girl is in shucking love with you. Do you realise that? I swear in every single conversation with her - no matter the topic - she always brings you up. We're eating pancakes? She talks about how you love them. We're gardening? She talks about the one time you accidently spilt the fertiliser bucket onto her and wouldn't stop apologising. We're going to the toilets? She talks about how once she got so drunk off of Gally's moonshine that you had to carry her to the shucking toilets. She does not shut up about you. Got it?"
"Got it!" Harriet repeated instantly.
"And second," Minho continued, "She wants to be your girlfriend - trust me. She is just too much of a wuss to ask you herself and secretly hoped that you would ask her. And for the date? She will love it. Food, plus long walks, plus you would be her ideal date. You are stressing for no reason. Got it?"
"Got it..." Harriet murmured. Maybe she had been a bit stupid and was thinking too much about the situation. In fact, now she was glad she had bumped into Minho, because he had reassured her that she knew what she was doing and that everything was going to be okay."
"Now go have fun on you're date. And if anybody asks me if I have seen you two, I'll say you're working," he winked.
Harriet laughed, raking a hand through her locks. "Greatly appreciated Minho."
"See you later, Harriet. For real this time," he snickered before patting her on the shoulder and once again, turning the corner and walking down the hallway.
Confidently, Harriet exited the building, walking across the wooden platforms. Quickly she glanced at her wristwatch, reading 6:15am. Anxiously, she bit down on her bottom lip; if her and Bea wanted to get to the top caves of the mountains by sunrise they had to leave soon.
She slipped into the sleeping halls quietly, the corridors empty apart from one person. Thomas. Harriet chose ignore that fact that Thomas had exited Brenda's room with a flushed face and ruffled hair, and decided to focus on the fact he was Bea's brother. And she was about to take Bea on a date.
