"She is my sister, baba."
"Yes. She is not your identity. You are your identity. You see yourself as troubled because Daksh saw you as a troubled child. If you break out, you will harm Alaknanda. That is how Daksh started it. Keeping you away from her till you forced the other side of you down. You did not transform into Kali to kill, Sonakshi. You transformed into Kali to protect. The basic instinct is to protect. It is not a disease. You are your identity. You are Sonakshi. You make your own self. No one else defines you. Shiva's identity is Shiva. Shakti's identity is Shakti. Vishnu's identity is Vishnu. We are connected to each other but not each other's individual identity. Vishnu is Uma's brother, not her identity. Alaknanda is your sister, not your identity. You are highly tangled in your identity with Alaknanda that you do not know how to differentiate between yourself and her."
I tried to understand what he was saying but I knew I was never Adi. Adi was always Adi. There cannot be anyone like Adi.
"Then why do you want to be like Alaknanda, Sonakshi? Let her be Alaknanda. You be Sonakshi. You do not have to take over her personality. There is nothing wrong with you."
I took a deep breath and nodded.
"Focus on your inner growth first, Sonakshi. You have to bring growth in your own self and re-wire yourself. Alaknanda can no longer be your reason. Let her be a part of your beautiful memories, not your identity. Find yourself."
Baba gave me his hand. I walked up to him and took it. He smiled.
I saw a five-year-old Adi standing people who worked in our home. She was dressed up as Krishna. Wearing the entire costume which I think she stole from Harsh.
"Then???" She looked so highly excited. She stood up on the kitchen counter, "Then Sona started to resemble Kali..." Adi started to dramatize. "And she taught those avatars of Putana and Dr Jackal such a good lesson." Adi laughed. "Right there they got scared out of wits. That is my Sona. She taught them such a good lesson for hurting me. Sona loves me the most. There is no one that can match my Sona." She huffed.
"Adya baba, how can she become Kali?" One of the women commented. Adi's expression changed to that of exasperation.
"Such a jealous person. I know you're only jealous because she can become Kali without having to paint herself black but you have to use paint to look like Kali for the drama at the temple." She stuck out her tongue.
"I thought with the kind of person you are, you wouldn't praise a second person." Another one of them commented and everyone laughed. That included Nani who was sitting by the dining table and listening to all this.
"Areeey... but this Sona. Sona is perfect. Sona is a goddess. Sona is amazing. She is my sister." Adi grinned proudly.
"Hmmm... okay, but tell me one thing, my Kanhaiya," Nani pulled Adi in her arms, "you think Sona is amazing because she's your sister or that she's your sister because she's amazing?"
Adi made a thinking face.
"That is a difficult question but regardless of anything she will always be my sister. Also, her awesomeness doesn't have to do anything with her being my sister. Because she's an entirely different person. She will always be my sister and she'll always be amazing."
"So, Kanhaiya, what do you think? Should we give her some chocolates? She's alone there, na." Nani offered.
"Yes!!!! Let's give Sona so many chocolates." Adi said excitedly opening her arms as far as they can get to quantify how many chocolates she wanted to give.
