When the computer notified him the train was nearby, he fired the tow cable, latching onto the train and then switching from 'reverse' to 'drive,' but he regretted it almost immediately. The train continued speeding forward.
That was, until he saw clouds of red energy consume the tracks. It looked like the magic that the Maximoff girl used.
The train stopped, and, fortunately, the Batmobile hadn't spontaneously combusted.
After catching his breath, (Y/N) exited the vehicle and rushed to the front of the train, where Steve and the Maximoff twins were recovering from the ordeal.
"The cradle, did you get it?" Wanda asked.
"Stark will take care of it," Steve said.
"No, he won't."
"You don't know what you're talking about, Stark's not crazy."
"He will do anything to make things right."
That was when (Y/N) realized. "He's going to try and wake that thing in the cradle."
—-
Steve, (Y/N), and the twins entered the lab to find Tony and Bruce working on the cradle.
"I'm only gonna say this once," Steve ordered.
"How about 'none-ce?'" Tony remarked.
"Shut it down," Steve said firmly.
"Nope, not gonna happen."
"You don't know what you're doing."
"And you do?" A sudden burst of confidence came from Bruce. "She's not in your head?" He was, of course, referring to Wanda.
"I know you're angry," the witch started.
"Oh, we're way past that," Bruce said. "I could choke the life out of you and never change a shade."
"You won't do that," (Y/N) said, perched on a railing above. "I'd stop you before that would ever happen. After everything that's happened-"
"That's nothing compared to what's coming!" Tony yelled.
Everyone began to shout over one another until Pietro ran in and dismantled all the lab equipment. "No, no. Go on. You were saying?"
The glass beneath him shattered, revealing Clint right below. "What? You didn't see that coming?"
"I'm rerouting the upload," Tony said, but he was stopped as (Y/N) threw a batarang just inches from his arm. "You know, everything in your arsenal is bat-related. Batarang, Batmobile. Batcave. Do you have a batphone? Maybe a, uh, I don't know, a bat-credit card?"
(Y/N) descended from the railing and lunged for Tony. The two sides battled it out until Thor suddenly entered and landed next to the cradle.
"Wait!" Bruce shouted, but Thor ignored him and shocked the cradle with a bolt of lightning.
The android jumped out of the cradle, crouching a moment before flying at Thor. The Asgardian threw the android away towards one of the windows, but the android stopped itself in midair and appeared to think for a moment.
The android floated back over and materialized a suit and cape for itself. "I'm sorry. That was... odd." He looked at Thor. "Thank you." His voice sounded exactly like JARVIS.
"Thor, you helped create this?" Steve asked.
"I've had a vision," Thor explained. "A whirlpool that sucks in all hope of life and at its center is that." He pointed to the yellow gem in the android's forehead.
The gem?" (Y/N) asked.
"It's the mind stone. It's one of the six infinity stones, the greatest power in the universe, unparalleled in destructive capabilities."
"Then why would you.." Steve began.
"Because Stark is right."
"Oh, it's definitely the end times," Bruce remarked.
"The Avengers cannot defeat Ultron," Thor continued.
"Thanks for the vote of confidence, big guy," (Y/N) said.
"Not alone," the android clarified.
"Why does your vision sound like JARVIS?" Steve asked.
"We... reconfigured JARVIS' Matrix to create something new," Tony said.
"I think I've had my fill of new."
"You think I'm a child of Ultron?" Vision asked.
"You're not?"
"I'm not Ultron. I'm not JARVIS. I am... I am."
"I looked in your head and saw annihilation," Wanda said.
"Look again."
"Yeah," Clint spoke up. "Her seal of approval means jack to me."
"Their powers, the horrors in our heads, Ultron himself, they all came from the mind stone," Thor said. "They're nothing compared to what it can unleash. But with it on our side..."
"Is it? Are you?" (Y/N) asked.
"I don't think it's that simple."
"Well, it better get simple."
"I am on the side of life. Ultron isn't. He will end it all."
"What's he waiting for?" Tony asked.
"You," Vision answered simply.
"Where?" Bruce asked,
"Sokovia," Clint answered. "He's got a Nat there too."
"If we're wrong about you," Bruce said to Vision, "If you're the monster that Ultron created you to be..."
"What will you do?" Vision asked. "I don't want to kill Ultron. He's unique, and he's in pain. But that pain will roll over the earth, so he must be destroyed. Every form he's built, every trace of his presence on the net, we have to act now. And not one of us can do it without the other, maybe I am a monster. I don't think I'd know if I were one. I'm not what you are, and nothing what you intended, so there may be no way to make you trust me, but we need to go." He, much to the surprise of the team, picked up Thor's hammer and offered it to him.
When Vision left, Thor patted Tony on the back. "Right. Well done."
Steve spoke to the others. "Three minutes, get what you need."
