I sigh, "I'm trying."
"This is probably a bad time but there's a girl downstairs who goes by the name Belle and she's saying there's something she's gotta talk to you about." She says.
I immediately sit up at the mention of Belle's name. What is she doing here?!? I haven't heard from or seen her since prom night and I most definitely wasn't expecting her to just show up at my door.
I walk downstairs and true to my eyes there she is. Her eyes light up when they see mine and she offers a friendly smile.
"What are you doing here?" I go straight to the point.
She sighs, "Well, I want you to know that I'm sorry. For everything you know with your little boyfriend and everything."
"Okay?"
"And I also want you to hear it from here and not anywhere else." She says and then sighs deeply, "I'm gay and I used to have a thing for you."
"What?!?" To say I'm flabbergasted it the biggest understatement of the year. Say what now?!
"Yep, was definitely expecting this reaction." She nods slowly, "But if this makes you feel any better, I don't like you anymore. In fact, I've got myself a girlfriend."
"Wow."
"Yeah." She nods awkwardly, "I had always kinda had feelings for you, that's why I tried to come between you and Zeke but it was a lost cause and I knew it. But anyways, I have been closeted for so long and now, I want to come out to everyone I know so yeah, there's that."
"Right." I nod slowly. I mean, what is there to be even said?!?
"I'm gonna take my leave now." She says and then slowly makes her way out of the house.
I'm still in shock after she leaves, I mean, who would have thought the entire Queen Bee of our school was gay and had a thing for me?!?
I try not to ponder on it too much and just brush past it. The next few days at school aren't as bad. Now, we're much closer to our graduation and even though I have wasted for this moment almost all my life, I feel kinda sad.
I'm gonna miss my friends and just school in general. At this point, Ellie is going strong with Beck and same too can be said for Nellie and Ian.
Ellie got into NYU, the school of her dreams and she's going to start classes with fall and apparently Beck too got into NYU with a basketball scholarship and I'm couldn't be any happier for her.
Nellie and I actually both got into Standford and we'll also be start this fall. I'm super excited for this new chapter of my life and especially so knowing that I won't be alone.
Soon, graduation rolls by and I am the happiest I have ever been in my life. This is it, all my four years of high school is all being summed up one afternoon.
When my name is called for me to get my diploma, I get a sense of satisfaction, I finally did it and I can say goodbye to this chapter of my life once and for all.
Right after the graduation, there is a graduation party and I was very reluctant to go at first but Ellie and Nellie somehow manage to pressure me into going and I give in.
"This is going to be so fun! We're no longer high school students!!" Nellie smiles happily as she throws her arms about, "I'm gonna get so drunk!"
"You know just because we're no longer high schoolers doesn't make drinking suddenly legal." I say.
"Don't ruin this for me Lexi!" She shakes her head at me still flailing her arms around wildly.
The party actually turns out to be kinda fun and I don't regret coming over. After being on the dance floor with the girls for God knows how long, my feet starts to hurt and I decide to go sit down for a bit.
"You sure?" Ellie yells over the loud music being played.
"Yeah!" I yell back, "I'll be right at the bar!"
"Okay!" She nods and I walk away to get myself something to drink.
"Alexis!" I suddenly I hear a voice behind me as I'm walking towards the bar. I turn and see Carter who looks surprised to see me.
"I didn't know you were going to come. I know parties aren't usually your scene."
"Well it was the last night of high school and I thought to myself, why not?" I shrug, "And so far, this party has been amazing."
"Well, I'm glad you're having fun." He smiles, "Look I know I never really got the chance to say sorry for everything I did, you know from cheating on you to sabotaging your relationship with Zeke. I was just jealous and also bored. I know it's not a good enough reason but I want you to know that I'm genuinely sorry and I don't any bad blood between us."
"Don't worry, everything is fine." I nod, "I'm trying to put all this behind me and start my life new when I finally go to college!"
"I'm so glad we can finally agree to put everything behind us once and for all." He smiles, "Well, I'm gonna leave you to it now! Have fun!"
"You too." I smile and finally make my way to the bar like I intended earlier.
"Hey uh can I get a Diet Coke?" I ask the bartender who nods and walks to go get me it.
As I'm rummaging through my purse to get money to pay for the drink. I end up dropping my bag. Just then, the guy next to me bends to help me pick it up and for a second, out hands touch each other.
I raise my head just at the time and stare right into the person's eyes. And it turns out it's none other than freaking Zeke!
