Connor continued to write stuff about wanting to be Evan's friend, real cheesy shit that Connor would never want to say out loud. He then finished it off with,

"Sincerely Me, Connor Murphy."

With that Connor asked Jared if it was ok, when Jared had no complaints, he clicked send. Immediately scared for how Evan would react.

"Welp, it's sent. Thanks Kleinman."

"Yea no problem Hot Topic. See you at school tomorrow."

Jared proceeded to end the call leaving Connor to think about shit. Very gay shit.

Jared sighed and leaned back into his bed, happy about the fact that Connor and Evan could become friends. When suddenly a thought struck him. If Connor and Evan became friends, would either of them need him?

He was about to go into a sad spiral of depressingness, when he heard his phone notification go off.

Jared laughed at the sudden mood change through Evan's texts. Knowing he would be unbothered for a while, he put in his earbuds and played the Mean Girls soundtrack. Because that shit went hard.

Just after Apex Predator, one of the best songs, Jared got a notification from Evan.

Evan <3: Dear Connor Murphy, yes I also miss our talks. Let's not do drugs, instead let's take deep breaths and go on walks. I'm sending pictures of the most amazing trees. You'll be obsessed with all my forest expertise. Dude, I'm proud of you. Just keep pushing through. You're turning around I can see.

Jared smiled, he found comfort in the fact that both of his crushes relied on him to know each other. He was scared for when they became friends though. Would they still need him? Still want him?

Does he even want Connor and Evan to be friends? What if they're better for each other than Jared ever was for either of them. What if they forget about Jared?

Jared sat up on his bed so he could rest his face in his hands. Though He found his face wet with tears. Shit. he hardly ever cried. He quickly wiped his tears with the sleeves of his jacket.

He didn't want to cry. Stupid fucking emotions.

Suddenly Jared noticed one of his soulmate strings. It was the one that connected to Evan. Jared knew that by heart. He remembered always feeling warm when he would see it. It was always a good reminder that Evan was there. That he was real.

Of course. How could he be so stupid? He and Evan we're soulmates. Evan would never abandon him. He's pretty sure it's impossible. Literally.

When he and Evan had been doing research on the soulmate strings, they learned about these two girls who were friends when they were younger, but had grown apart after discovering they were soulmates. Simply because of internalized homophobia in one of them.

So the two girls grew apart, and it hadn't even been a week since they stopped talking to each other when their soulmate string began to burn their skin. According to the article Jared had read, once the two girls made contact again, the string stopped burning.

So it seemed that once two soulmates know the other person is their soulmate, they can't go a week without contact so technically, Evan was obligated to talk to Jared.

Jared smiled. He didn't have anything to worry about.' He could let Evan and Connor become friends, and Evan would still talk to him.

Jared smiled once more before putting in his airpods, putting on his musical playlist, and falling back on his bed.
