He placed the next bag of popcorn inside and started the microwave once again. Caden walked over and looked around the kitchen for a bit before he found a bowl to put the popcorn in. Max grumbled and grabbed the bowl from him, opening up the bag next and waving off the smoke that came out. Right away, the smell of burnt popcorn filled the air and Hector couldn't help the laugh that spilled out. A smirk danced upon Caden's lips as he stared at Max who was glaring at the popcorn bag.
"What's so funny, Hector? You know what? You and Caden can eat this burnt popcorn while Diego and I enjoy a nice good bag of-"
"You're gonna burn that one too," Caden pointed at the microwave as the last pop was heard.
Max quickly opened the microwave door and sighed in relief when one more pop was heard. He immediately opened the bag and grinned when he saw that it wasn't burned. He grabbed the bowl that Caden got, grabbed the good bag, dumped the popcorn inside, threw away the bag, and came over and sat on the couch with a grin. When Hector reached over to grab some Max slapped his hand away and hugged the bowl closely, shoving more popcorn into his mouth.
"Don't be an ass," Caden said and quickly grabbed some before running to the other couch, Max gasping and throwing a pillow at him, dropping some popcorn pieces on the floor.
"Look what you made me do!"
"You did that!"
"No, you did! You started it!"
"You are hogging all the good popcorn!"
"You-"
"So what movie are we going to watch, Diego?" Hector asked before they could continue their banter.
"Well they mostly have either Disney or action movies. But they only have the Fast and Furious franchise, the Transporter franchise, and a couple other action movies."
"Ooh, let's watch the first Fast and Furious movie! R.I.P. Paul Walker," Max said and wiped a fake tear while looking up as if to look up at the sky.
"I'll enjoy staring at Vin Dieasel," Hector said with a shrug, making Max throw a piece of popcorn at him.
I put the movie in and sat down on a recliner chair that had a perfect view of the TV screen. The movie was fun to see, especially with Max gushing over Letty and Caden making sarcastic comments on each character. There were only a few moments where the two argued but Hector would make a comment that they would both agree on and the argument would end. The girls arrived a few minutes after the movie ended with more groceries than they had originally planned but I wasn't complaining, most of it was food.
"So, what do you guys think? We can have fun here, right? We leave soon anyways," Charlie asked, putting away the last bit of groceries.
"It's a really nice place. Please thank your parents for letting us stay."
"My best friend is always so nice," Max gushed and pinched my cheek.
"Well, it's going to be 5 soon, what should we do?"
"Well tonight we can make a bon fire, we brought marshmallows and things for s'mores," Rosaline stated, tossing a bag of marshmallows on the counter.
"It's gonna be wild tonight," Caden mumbled sarcastically, Max elbowing him hard in the stomach to which he groaned and caught the attention of the rest of the group.
"Are we boring you?" Charlie asked with a smirk.
"I-I'm just saying, I'm not used to a calm night when hanging out with people. Whenever I did there was at least some alcohol involved. That's when the party really started."
"Wait-"
"I know where we can get alcohol," Rosaline said, interrupting me.
"Shouldn't we-?"
"If we leave now, we can be back by 6," Charlie added, also interrupting me.
"Aren't we-?"
"We need good alcohol though, I hate simple beer," Max stated, not even noticing that he too had interrupted me.
"Oh trust me, I don't get cheap," Rosaline finished with a smirk.
"Are we not going to talk about the fact that you three just talked over Diego?" Hector asked, becoming my hero to save me from the deep depths of interruptions. "You guys interrupted him three times."
All eyes were on me now and I wasn't sure if I was grateful to Hector or if I wish they would keep interrupting me. Though it was too late, I had their focus. I was hesitant about drinking, I never did it unless I had my mother's permission at parties. But even then, it was like a small sip. I didn't know why I was so nervous to try it, it's not like they're forcing me. In fact, Charlie might even get me simple drinks that contain little percentage of alcohol. Should I go through with it though? I didn't want them to waste money on me.
"Nevermind, I just don't want you guys to get in trouble since we are underage."
"Oh, I got that covered. We should go now though," Rosaline said, shrugging it off and grabbing her things, walking out with Charlie who said a quick bye before leaving.
"Hey, you know you don't have to drink, right?" Hector asked, walking up to me to talk privately.
"I know," I reassured him with a small smile. "We should make something to eat though. I hear it's bad to drink on empty stomachs."
"Leave it to me," Caden said and washed his hands in the sink. "I'll prepare something delicious."
"I'm gonna take a shower" Max yelled and ran into his room, leaving Hector and I alone.
He glanced at me and chuckled, shaking his head and running a hand through his hair. I know we said we wouldn't be awkward around each other, but I still felt the awkward tension in the air. It was quite clear what his feelings were but I couldn't find myself to see if I felt the same way. Yet, he seemed like he didn't want to push me to find out either. Though it does feel awkward, he seems to be content with our position right now.
"Well, want to build a puzzle?"
