Chapter Twenty-Eight

Start from the beginning

Xerxes didn't say anything more after that. We waited on Falcon so Xer could winnow the three to The Court of Nightmares. Falcon appeared in a rather casual fancy outfit. We matched, by accident. The ghosts flew around me dropping the temperature to hide my blush.

Thank you.

Xer cleared his throat, "Let's go." I gripped my brother's wrist tightly. "If you ever think about betraying the Night Court, know that your punishment will be me conquering this entire country."

Falcon smirked, he knew very well I could deliver my promise. Xer's face paled a bit, "Our lips are sealed."

Xerxes winnowed us straight into the open balcony. Rhysand waited in his normal pitch black attire, my sister stood next to him in a similar dress. Pitch black, with a deep v curve, everything below her waist was covered, thankfully.

"Princess Kana, Prince Xerxes, it's a pleasure." Lord Rhysand greeted dipping his head a bit. I motioned my hand, "Thank you for your hospitality. This is Advisor Lorde, my father insisted we bring him with us."

Azriel's shadows sneaked in the shadow my dress left on my ankles. They tickled me silently. I smiled at the familiar friends, "If you wouldn't mind, formalities seem a bit much."

Rhys nodded the light entering his eyes. "Amren and Mor are guarding the alcohol in the sitting room, it would be favorable to get there before they drink it all."

I snorted and shot a glance to Feyre. Rhysand's dark power curled around us, I blinked as the light changed drastically. Blinking, I overlooked the giant balcony. The house was tucked into the mountain side, The House of the Wind. Velaris, City of Starlight.

"I could see you in Night Court." Hava had said. Rhys spoke smoothly, "I don't care if you are Kana's brothers or friends, perhaps even her lovers, I will slaughter you if this City reaches your fathers ears by your voices."

Advisor Lorde spoke calmly, "Princess Kana has made similar promises." I winked at Az behind Xer's back. I watched Falcon's lip twitch. Mor marched in and threw herself around me, "Nesta won't come tonight but we have alcohol!!"

I rolled my eyes. Hide, act fine, push them away. I silently accepted a singular glass. The dinner had begun.

I was right, because there was no going back.

Feyre hated me for abandoning her.

Nesta despised me for getting them all turned into fae.

Elain was broken, numb, and that nothingness would grow into rage. I straightened my shoulders at Feyre's glare across the table. It would be okay, I would find a way to live with this.

There was no fixing it.

Lounging in the room I would stay in while at Night Court, the stars twinkled in silent mockery out the bay windows. Soft knocking occurred before Rhys peaked his head into the room.

"Sorry to interrupt your brooding." Rhys teased light heartedly. My frown did not lessen, "Feyre will never forgive me will she?"

Silence engulfed us quickly. Rhys cleared his throat, "Feyre needs time, she found your body half pinned to the floor with a spear."

"And yet here I am." I whispered, spinning the wine in my glass in circles. I'd barely touched the drink, the same cup of wine has sat in front of me for hours. Rhys sighed, "You couldn't control what happened Kana."

"I knew the price since I first played The Game. My life for my sisters, yet all of us died anyway." My voice was soft, yet it broke something at last. Everything I had ever done was for my sisters.
