"Kinda hard not to if you're wearing a tight shirt," he smiled at my comment which in turn caused me to smile as well. "I miss you. We don't hang out or talk as we use to. And I know you are busy with the threats going on towards the pack and all that but I miss my best friend," the former smile that was on his face is now gone a replaced with seriousness that I've never seen take part in his face and that's how I knew I barely made time him anymore. He isn't the first person I wanna talk to in the mornings anymore or the first person that comes to mind on the long list of people I care about. I haven't even told him about what happened to me or that I have a sister.
"I miss you too Mike," I touched his shoulder as I said these words. "I know I've been busier than usual lately and yes some of it is because of the threats against the pack but I promise that as soon as this is over, everything will change and it will be better OK," I offered him another smile and it didn't take long for him to return it. "You were never usually so optimistic," he pointed out and my smile got wider as the reason for that came to mind. "Things have changed. I've changed," he nods his head.
"I have to go. Alpha Jacob is expecting me," I said to him and motioned that he was blocking the entire pack house. "OK, well could we hang out tonight possibly? You know catch up," he asked hesitantly which is so unlike him. "Yeah of course," I replied immediately. Seeing I had nothing else to and I wanted to know how my best friend was doing. "Awesome. I'll text you the details," he said with his signature smile. "OK," I waved goodbye to him before continuing my original route to Jacob's office.
And once again I started to feel anxious the closer and closer I got to his office door. How would I walk in? Would I just be like 'hey Jacob I'm back don't worry I didn't fall to the charms of my ex-mate because I accepted his rejection and to make it even better I rejected him which makes it even harder to get back together with him
Too much?
"Yuh think," Lizzy replied and I sigh
Just as I approach Jacob's door and was about to knock I paused all of a sudden. I don't know why but I don't think that he's in his office. Slowly I removed my hand from the door and started walking. I didn't know where I was going but I didn't question it either. I just let my body move and before I know it I'm on the back patio. The sun has set which gives the chilly night air permission to send chills down my arm with no heat from the sun to warm me up. Only a few pack members were around here this late which brings me to the question, What am I doing back here?
My question was answered as I suddenly picked up on a scent that makes my heart race. Pinecones and Firewood. I followed the scent and I came across two males talking to a younger female. It was Jacob and Christian. She looks around my age and familiar too but I can't put my finger on it. Jacob's back was turned to me so he didn't know that I was behind him. I was about to over there and announce my arrival but I decided against it as I realized their body language. They both look tensed while talking to the female and their dominance radiates off of them in waves as if they wanted her to know who's in charge. A form of intimidation.
It looks serious so I decided to wait until they were done but I couldn't help but notice what Jacob was wearing. Loose grey sweatpants and a long sleeve baby blue and white shirt. His hair was wet and messy like he just came out of the shower. He looks hot. As if feeling someone staring at him, he turned around and caught my eye. Suddenly the tension in his body diminished. His shoulders relaxed and he offered me a small smile. He turned back to Christian and whispered something to him before making his way toward me.
"Hi -" I was cut off by a pair of lips meeting mine. Butterflies flutter in my stomach as his hands found their way to my cheeks and caress gently. My hands settled on his chest and I fist his shirt to pull him closer to me. I felt a way of relief and security when I'm with him, in his arms, in his presence. I've never felt this way about anyone before. Not even with my mate. It's this feeling that makes me know that he's the one for me. That Jacob is the one for me.
