Chapter 3-The Burning Truth

Start from the beginning

"Yeah." He replied simply.

"And there's more than one type of magic?" I asked eagerly. He nodded again.

"Yes." He replied.

I stared at my dad in absolute silence. I had no words. So much was going through my mind at once. Magic exists? And my dad just performed it? But does that mean that I can do that too? Is that even possible? Can I do magic?

"Alex? Are you okay Firelight?"

I was snapped out of my thoughts. I shook my head and looked up at him.

"What did you call me?" I asked.

"Firelight, it's a nickname I thought of for you when your powers first manifested. What? Don't you like it?" He asked.

"No, I like it- Wait, what do you mean when my powers first manifested?" I asked.

"Okay, I was hoping to save this story for a later date, but it's time I tell you the story about us elementals." He said.

"Elementals?" I asked.

He held out his hand again, and a flame appeared once again, but this time there were small orange and red particles surrounding the flame. The flame was burning brighter and brighter, until a blinding orange light filled the room. I shielded my eyes for a second, and when I opened them again, I found myself in a large room completely lit up by torchlight and the fire burning in the fireplace on the other side of the room. I looked around and saw that the walls were filled with dozens of pictures, that seemed to be moving, and glowing.

"Those are your ancestors." I heard my dad say from behind me.

"My ancestors?" I asked.

"Yep." He said walking over to me. He put his hand on my shoulder.

"A very long time ago, in a distant realm, magic was seen just about everywhere. It was amusing for people to see all the types of magical wonders in their world. Then, one day, a man was stuck in the snowy mountains. He was sure he'd die from the extreme cold, but he soon found out, that his death wasn't for a long time." Dad explained.

He went over to one of the pictures and tapped it, then all of a sudden, it came to life. It showed a middle aged man on a snowy mountain, like dad just explained, shivering. It was snowing in the picture, actually snowing.

"Whoa..." I said quietly.

"The man lay there, shivering. But, for a moment, he felt the warmth of a fire right next to him. But the feeling disappeared sooner than he felt it. He lay there, waiting for the cold to take his life, but instead he felt warmth. And that was when he noticed that his skin was on fire." He explained tapping another picture. The picture comes to life again, and exactly what dad explained to me, happened.

"How did that happen?" I asked.

"Well, after he returned to his village and told everyone of what happened on the mountain..." He taped another picture. This one had an old man in a long robe.

"A mage came, and told the man that he was blessed with magical abilities like none he's ever seen before."

"Fire magic." I muttered, amazed by what I was seeing.

"Exactly. Since then, different types of elemental magic started to manifest in other people. And so, as a result of the magic spreading to his village, an entire race of magical elemental beings was born." He said tapping the last picture. There were dozens of elementals, all of them had different hair colours, which sparked my curiosity.

"How were they able to tell what element they got?" I asked.

"Well, the colour of their hair and eyes makes it easy to tell. Us fire elementals have red hair and eyes. Shadow elementals have a dark navy blue. Lightning have yellow, Nature have green, Water have a deep sea blue, Light have pink, Earth have brown, Mind have purple, Ice have a bright cyan blue and Air have a light grey or white." He explained. I nodded.
